Wow, I am still in awe since this kill like 3 hours ago. I was coming home from eating Hacienda with 2 buddies of mine. As I pull out on to the main two lane road, I see a blue ram air trans am come up on my left. I look over and crack the window and hear his mean ass exhaust and see some type of fuel controller mounted on the dash. We both exchange looks and play through traffic a bit till we can get side by side. We are doing about 70, and as I get to his door, I hear him go WOT. I am in 4th gear, and just mash it, and can hear the turbo goin crazy as I start to pull past him, by about 90, I got to be about a car in front of him. Me and my friends go nuts, cause my car has no business keeping up with LS1 Trans-Ams. We begin to slow down, as we look ahead and see that the DSM gods are smiling down upon us as we see the light go yellow  I am shaking from the adrenaline as I get to the line and see him pull up next to me. I wont even look at me. I get his attention and point up at the night, and he nods and gives a rev back to me. I see him messing with his fuel controller thingie (it was a touch screen) as the other lanes of traffic go. My palms sweat as I wait for the light to change. I see the other side go red and bring up the revs to like 3000 (doh!!!). I bog the launch a bit but still get him by about a bumper off the line. I hit about 4000rpm and was pulling like a raped ape at about 17psi. I hit 6700 and slam it into second, and see the trans am go about a car length back and hear him slam into second also. I think hes catching up to me till I shift into third at about 6500 and see him about a car and a half or two cars back. In third im still pulling real hard and put my hand out the window to wave byebye to him and by about 90 I had about 2 car lengths on him. I throw the flashers because I was freakin out, and this dude wont even get next to me. He finally comes up to pass me and revs again, but twice was enough for me. At this point I am fucking ecstatic. My only mod is a 3'' turbo-back exhaust and a boost creep to 18psi. I dont think I should ahve been able to take this thing, but it was defiantely LS1 powered, and had some mods. Im sure lots of people wont believe me, but I had two witnesses with me who can verify. Just thought Id share my exciting night with you guys.

sounds like a sick kill

don't get too worked up though, cause a ls1 should've handed your ass to you, but you beat THIS one none the less. if the guy was "messing with a fuel controller" then it sounds like he wasn't fucking around, so i don't know what happened unless your car runs low 13s or 12s (what i've heard modded ls1's CAN run)

still a good kill, i just wouldn't get a big head if i were you...

Sure it was a fuel control unit? Im installing a laptop soon in my car to monitor Spark Knock and some other things.. never heard of a touch screen fuel controller though.. hmm..

Nice kill!

agreed. i beat my friends 94 M6 Z28 in my V6 5spd Ext Cab F150. he cant launch for shit and it was street light to street light. i got the F150 off the line like a mofo and until about 55-70 i dunno i was in 3rd i was ahead and coming up on the light and as we went through the intersection he caught up and then flew by after it. it was great that i had peeps there to witness it. but by no means could my truck ever beat a Fbody. hell the best Gtech i got outta it was a 17.3. i find it funny that he would prolly run a 16 something at the track launching the Z like that. albeit would be at like 90-100mph cause my F150's gtech trap was 83mph.

It definately should have beat me, but I beat it fair and sqaure twice, so maybe my car is a freak or somethin??
Not sure if it was a fuel controller, but i saw him messing with this thing he had mounted on the dash, kinda looked likea logger, only with an LCD screen. I dont have a big head, but it sure felt awesome to spank that thing.

Sweet kill man....but not to knock you off your high horse but either he was the worst driver ever or you are the best driver ever, or both. You sure it was an LS-1? You would prolly give a good race to an LT-1 from a stop, but from a roll even an LT-1 should eat you up. I think they switched to the LS-1 in 1998...

I wouldnt say he was the worst driver, cause I didnt have an awesome launch (bogged a little), and he was able to keep up within a car length off the line. Im 99.9% sure it was an LS1. It was the new style, with the stock ramair hood, and had the super-aggressive new style front end. It was defaintely the newest body style. Not sure if it was an auto or stick, but aren't the autos still pretty decent in those?

Don't sweat it.. the LS1 has said to have been "made by gods hands" by the LS1 crowd for a while.. 1998 ~ 2000 models are a bit weaker than the newest ones.. Hell I ran a 1998 Camaro SS one night from a dead stop (We went to a marked spot on a country road) I had a bad Knock Sensor and my timing was retarded 13 degrees sitting at IDLE! He only got me by a half car length.. ran several times.. Ive seen LS1s pull low 13s and Ive seen them run in the 14s... I know of a guy in Moline, IL who sent his SS back to SLP because he couldnt get a 13.xx with it.. he previously owned a 97, 98 and 99 model and they all went 13 something... he couldn't get his 00 to break 14 flat. There are factory freaks that make the whole crowd look good, and there are black sheep that everyone pretends don't exist.. entirely possible he had something messing up on him..hard to say. Good Kill.. dont worry bout it ;) Just curious.. cuz I know of a few setups to log data and I can't think of anything with a touch screen..hmmm..

I would love to see it if there is one!

when i say touch screen, i meant with a stylus, not with finger. Sorry for the confusion. But after every touch, he would pop a little rev  I dont know what the hell he was doing. But anyways, probably just a logger. Who knows?

I don't know what you're talking about. I have about 10-11 close friends with LS1. ALL OF them stock have run at least 13.6 @105, and that's automatics. Most run around 13.4s though. 98 are very strong, because of less admissions restrictions. I dont' call cars factory freaks more or less freaky drivers. ANY LS1 that's in correct working order should at least be able to pull mid 13s. BLAME it on the driver, cause I've never seen an LS1 dyno less than 295 to the wheels. My 00 mustang only dynoed at 227 and I got a 13.8 out of it, so I see know reason why with that much HP an ls1 can't pull mid 13s

I do agree there is no real reason that an LS1 won't pull at leat 13s.. Eh, mid 13s are definately possible (even have records of 12s out of those cars bone stock), although most ppl can't drive that well..

Plus, again we are talkin about the street here and I doubt the LS1 would pull even mid 13s.

In any case, good kill, even tho it may seem a little far fetched (hard to pull ls1s past 60 mph).

Wait till you get even more mods, thats when it gets real fun =]

i chanced my mind, get a big head and rub it in every ls1 owner's face that you toasted one w/ a minimally modded 4 cylinder. they would do the same to you.

s8er95z and darkstang or cool in my book though. you guys are allright

What are you talking about? Street/Strip car should pull around the same time, just as long as their on the same tires. I raced plenty of LS1/most being my friends streets and strip. THe results are mostly the same. I'm considered myself a very consistant driver in my 00 GT. I would always jump about 1/2 car in front of them off the line, but around 60-70mph they would pass by me. Mid to low 13s in an LS1 is no sweat on the streets. Especially with the monsterous trap speed.. I don't know what mullet heads you guys race.

I have a full second in the 1/4 on my friend's stock '02 SS Camaro but from a 50mph roll he pulls even at around 100mph and we pretty much stay side by side with by maybe a half a car by 130mph. Those V8s have great mid range and I need more than 17psi.
I wanna rematch with 22 psi this spring.

It may have been the driver, who knows? The fact of the matter is

1. Pulled on him from a roll from 70-95mph
2. Pulled on him from a stop from 0-90mph with no ground gained by him.

I dont care what they run at the track, cause im well aware of it, but I beat this particular LS1 with some mods on the street by a few car lengths and I had 2 people in the car to witness it. Not every street race lasts a quarter mile. Thanks for the positive compliments guys.

Not flamed, but I think it was a V6:D

agreed with Darkstang. I can see him not driving to well and losing to you from a stop, but from a roll at 70mph? Ls1's third gear is killer and will dominate *most. I have by far more mods than yourself and have raced several Ls1 ws6's/ss's. One ws-6 was running nitrous(125shot), from a stop I'd take him to around 110ish by about a car 1/2 off the nitrous- on the bottle he would just blow by me by the time he hit third gear(around 70ish). We then raced from a roll of about 60 and we stayed even to about 90ish and let off- the race from a roll was with him off the nitrous. He also has a cut-out, heavily modded on suspension mods, and a lot of other domestic mods that I'm ignorant to.
He ran a 13.9 up here at 5800ft asl- off the nitrous.
SOOOO, to sum it up- you raced a v6 with ws-6 body parts.

What Im talking about is 01s and 02s have LS6 intake, and a few other goodies..known to boast 325~340 at the wheels stock! So the older ones are a bit weaker.. worst dynos Ive seen were all from 98 models... 29x rwhp... more than one car mind you ;)

Also after 1996 (LT1 till mid 97 production LS1 era after that) they all have ODBII (Same Emissions shit on all of them).. They just got sweeter with age is all :)
