Stock Talon vs SVT Contour

I was headed home tonight after hanging out at a friends house. I had a buddy in the car and i was driving past what used to be the local hang out. Its a national holiday tomorrow, so i was hoping there might be some fools out to pick on.

I'm driving down the road, doing about 5 under ... just cuz.. Light is red up ahead, and i take it out of gear to coast. Headlights behind me on my right are approaching fairly quickly... Hmm.. i can't quite make out what it is.. but it's got some foglights on there that looked factory.

Light turns green before i come to a stop, and i'm coastin in 2nd now, and a black SVT contour passes me on the right fairly quickly. I mentioned to my passenger that i 'thought' those were pretty quick... I leaned into 2nd gear a bit, and at about 35 mph i'm about a car back, and he sees me coming. He gets on it, and i give it almost WOT. I get up to about 5200 rpms and shift granny style (slowly) into 3rd and take it up to about 65 mph. At first i didn't think i should have pulled on him so hard. But i shut it down right before the top of a hill (cops like to hide on the other side, and catch people like me) and he keeps going! He must have got up to 80 or so in a 45... Nice flyby

Anyway, i had about a car and a half when i shut her down, but i was pulling pretty hard. For 200 hp, you'd think those contours would be pretty peppy... *shrug*

Oh well. I'm happy.

oh, and p.s. I think i've given up on the clutch break in period

I haven't launched it yet, but it feels rock solid; grabs like a mofo. I've been giving it some more revs, but nothing to redline... yet!

they do a 0-60 in 6.7 or so....nice all around cars if you have a family or somethin and cannot afford a sporty 4 door like an M5 or what have you...

Yeah i saw one of them on the road today, some dude drivin it. As im drivin by him hes lookin over at me like im a joke or somtin. So i keep drivin an the light ahead of us turns red, im pumped now. Gonna punish this dude, but what do u know he hops over into the turn lane. I hate that, even if it out of my way i will hit light for a race any day.

Well, like Ninjatune14 said, they do like 6.7 stock with a good driver, and I can verify that Ninja was right....they do 0-60 = 6.9sec. 1/4 = 15.4sec. trapspeed = 91mph. So if he was actually trying it should of been a little closer, especially since you didn't go WOT like you claim

I was there. The dude just got it because he had a 30 day tag on it. LOL, I wonder if he knows about all the different models of DSMs. I hope he was like, "Ah man, I just got beat by a 4 cylinder." All my money on this retarded SVT Contour and it gets beat by a 4 cylinder Talon. DOH!!!!!

The guy did a rice-by before I could laugh at him. Oh well.

actually you can pick up an E0 (98/99) SVT tour for about 6K in good condition with under 50K miles. I don't think he spent too much. There's one I know of that people claim to have seen run solid mid 12's. I've seen it run 13.6 with less mods so I'd believe it. Best thing about those cars is the exhaust note. Once that TB opens up there is no other car with that sound other than the new SVT Cobra's. They are beautiful cars.

heh.... i remember when i had a broken 3rd gear and no vtec (basically -50/60HP) and i saw one of those at a stop, my car wasnt in racing condition so i dont even look over, and i hear his tires squeal so i punch it in 1st and i kept pulling and at end of 2nd i went to 4th and then he started to pull but we had to slow down for another stop hahahha.... not very fast at all zzzz

Well damn. For some reason I thought they were faster than that. *shrug* Oh well. Not bad for a 4 door. I like the looks of them too, but i don't plan on buying another ford every again..

I have two friends who took their stock SVT countors to the track and they both ran 15.4 @ 90mph.. It's a preaty nice car for what it is..

I like the little focus svt to be honest with you .. What would be really bad ass is a turbo charger in one of those monkeys !

they cost a fortune here in Toronto though about 31 k fully loaded cand / approx what 24 / 25 usd

Ah ... so you get the guys who throw on a turbo and beleive it magically erases 3 / 4 seconds in a 1/4 mile

my good friend has one, and his was stock when i got my gst stock. we never actually lined up and raced, but when i was following him and he got on it from a roll i would always gain on him. you gotta remember that the svt contour weighs alot and is VERY restrictive out of the factory as far as intake and exhaust go.

my friend now has intake, headers, y-pipe (eliminate pre-cats) and cat back badass duel exhaust with a high flow cat. the thing can haul ass, but he can't touch me

. it is mostly all bark and no bite though.

he was gonna s/c it, but he decided that he is gonna turbo it. he is anticipating about 350 hp (crank) and somewhere in the 13s. not too shabby imho. i love the car, but it isn't enough for me. maybe rwd with a svt COBRA motor in it. now we are talking (if it would fit in, which it wouldn't)

I used to own a svt contour, a 1998. It was a pretty nice car, lot of sweet induction noise when you punch it. That thing would OWN any NT DSM and keep its own with a stock turbo car. From 60 MPH up to 120 it would pull almost anything but an SVT cobra or a C5 vette. With a KNN filter and MAS screens removed it was a 14.99 car at 93

Back from the dead.. I don't think any one remembers this thread any more...
I highly doubt a stock SVT countor would own almost anything on the road execept for cobras and vetts. A 15 second car is far from owning anything, and preaty standard for most cheap sedans today. Countor traps 90mph, vett traps 106mph. That's a big gap. They are nice cars though..
