For weight reasons more than looks (Yeah Right) I'd like to remove the whole spoiler assembly. I haven't yet weighed the pieces yet, but it could be more than 25 lbs including screws etc. Just to let you know that I have the 3 pieces that begin with the hatch mounted spoiler + the 2 side pieces that mount over the rear fenders and hardware. Then there are the 2 extra pieces that mount over the doors which I didn't get. Those pieces were pulled of a junked TSI and I can't remember if it had the lower mouldings.

I have a 90 Laser w/o the spoiler and it doesn't look half bad. Altough the Laser does not have the lower mouldings. Those extra pieces were pulled for the Laser but it may take more work than I'm willing. I count 3 holes that have to be drilled just for the hatch part alone. And they have to line up. And the Laser is DEAD with a blown engine.

So,

  • Anyone have done this? With pics?

What to do with the center brakelight? I'm thinking use the glass mounted center brakelight as in the Laser.

While on the weight issue, I'm going to rip out those stupid gas struts in the hatch cause they're useless and weigh something pounds and make it hard to open the hatch Dammit. (Getting late)

You can have the inside rear hatch 3rd brake light out of my laser for free. The tint conceals the fact that it is removed, and the 90 looks old enough that no one wonders why it does not have the 3rd brake light. Maybe you should just run without a while and see if it matters..

Since you have a laser with no hatch already the talon should look just like that, right, or is there something I am missing? I agree with the weight savings concept, that's free performance. ;)

I am confused as well

Here you are removing it......

Then you are trying to install one.

So are you removing or installing??

Oh, I thought it was all clear. But here goes.

Forget all about the Laser. It has a dead engine and I'm pulling parts off of it.

What I was going for is the removal of the 3-piece rear spoiler and the finish moulding near the the door windows on a 90 Eagle TAlon TSI. The 90 Talon I have has also the lower side moulding extensions (which the Laser does not). Please look at this picture.

Here's an idea. Can anyone take that picture and perform Photoshop magic to get what I'm looking for?

So you are trying to remove the spoiler on the Talon and leave it off right? Ditch the third brake light I doubt anyone will notice that you don't have it. You'll have some holes to fill in, but I'm sure you already know that. When you start I would like to see some pics. I was thinking of removing mine as well on of these days. But what exactly is your question, I'm still not sure.

This is what I was looking for. I wanted to see if the profile of the car would look unbalanced with the lower moldings that the TSI's have. I think it looks alright especially compared to the Laser on the left.

This thread below may convince me to go ahead and buy probaly Photoshop LT or download a "free" version.

I still need a clearer version though. This modification sounds like an interesting one cause somebody just started a thread like this one.

Thank you psycho17-that's exactly what I was looking for. Except for the wing-I'll probably go without. For the weight savings.

Do you have anymore pics? Can I ask you to post one more of the side? Sorta like this one. In the daytime? Oh, not asking for much really :)

Friends say I'm sometimes hard to understand-like I was speaking some foreign language. That's it, I must be Canadian! :) No Offense Meant.

Muchos Gracias Amigos

That's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks to you both. I've saved those photos to show to the body shop when I take the car in. Stay tuned for photos.

Okay, here's another pic, I couldn't get too far away from the car (like your example picture) cuz I had cars on either side, but here's one. I have a few more, as well.

I think you jacked that wing of of the Honda Accord down the street from me. Or is that one of those new bike racks?

hey where did the shiny underhood piece on the hood come from on the white eclipse? mine is old and definetly never was shiny- i want a shiny piece- please help

weight reasons......you can't be serious. all the welding and bondo you use to fill the holes will add up to the same weight. if you're that concerned about weight i hope you drive around with no seats an sit on a soap box with no interior. now if your going for looks then i retract my previous statement.

I totally agree, 3 pieces too that spoiler weighs about a pound and a half, i put this spoiler on my laser and it weighs close to nothing, if you wanna get rid of some weigh ditch the spare tire and back seat assembly, if u havent done that already and are that concerned with the spoiler you have some serious reconcerning to do.

Yes, I am that serious. If you re-read some of my earlier posts above, you'll see that I do have another spoiler set including the screws and tabs so I know what I'm talking about in the weight issue. As for the welding and bondo, If done correctly, the plugs/patches and the minimal filler (Bondo is a name brand BTW) will not add up to a lot of weight. And yes, I am doing this for looks. 2 birds as they say.

Yes I have done a lot of reconsidering :) Can we see a picture of that Laser with the new spoiler? I had thought of doing this before the Laser lost the engine.

My husband did it to his old laser (90 style). Looked nice, but tooooo much work. The spoiler needs square holes, which makes it more difficult than you would think.

You can get aftermarket Talon spoilers which are kind of like the 92's, but for the 90 style. The back wedge is a little more aggressive though (you can tell right away by looking that it isn't from a talon, but it's still a nice 3 piece wedge) and it's MADE for lasers so you don't have to do a bunch of weird drilling to make it fit...

Meh, I can't imagine that the welding to close up my old spoiler holes weighs too much. Alot less than having the wing on anyway.
