Ok i bought a 97 gsx about 3 weeks ago.... i was in need of a car i just said screw it if it has cw i will just deal with it. Well i was driving and all of a sudden when i pushed the clutch in i hear this high pitched ticking sound. The car had a problem with shifting... it's like i have to force it in gear on 1st and 2nd... i just figured it was worn out or something. It makes the noise all the time just slightly during idle though. But when i push the clutch in it gets nasty. Also when i push the clutch in the engine slows by a couple of hundred rpm. I'm guessin something maybe is touchin something it shouldn't ... like the crank into the damn motor. I'm not really a mechanic so i don't really know what the deal is but i would appreciate it if someone who knows about it would help me. The noise is coming from the left side of the motor. Like i said i couldn't tell you what half the parts are under there. But to me it sounds like crankwalk. If so i'm prolly just gonna get a first gen motor. I've read where i can get a jdm for around a thousand .. and a 20% chance of one having a 16g with it. If anyone has any helpful advice i would appreciate it.. cuz it's not like i'm goin anywhere. mitsu bastards

yup. cw. the noise you hear on the driver side is the crank trigger hitting the crank angle sensor. It'll eat it away eventually... you'll know when your car stalls and wont start.

you said "the noise you hear on the driver's side" it's not on the drivers side.... when i open the hood it's on my left in that direction.... like i said i don't know much about em but you said drivers side and it's actually the other side... is it just on the opposite end ? I'm a retard when it comes to motors so i prolly sound dumb.... i have no tools or nothin to check it with and i just moved recently so i don't know of anyone who actually knows about this stuff. That's just my damn luck i'm always gettin fudged on everything. Guess i was dumb buy hey 7500 for a 97 gsx with 80k miles... oh well guess it's a 1g motor for me

oh.. heh. dont get all excited yet, if its not on the drivers side then its most likey the throw out bearing. 7500 doesnt sound bad for a '97 with 80K either

and how much would a throw out bearing cost? I plan on building the motor so i'm thinking of just gettin a different motor cuz i would hate to have to spend money puttin shit in it then the motor go bad. The parts on the first gen and second gen aren't interchangable are they? I mean i know not every part would be but are any?

I don't know how much stuff costs, but I do know that most parts from the 1g 4g63 are interchangeable with the 2g 4g63. They're not THAT different.

you'd prolly pay $30-50 for a good metal inner bearing race TOB. I would consider doing a whole clutch job while you're in there tough, so you dont have to pull everything back apart... maybe an act2100 setup.

well it was the clutch and i almost made a mistake drivin it to work to let my unc look at it cuz i almost didn't make it home. The damn clutch had no pressure and at one point got stuck to the floorboard but i am in the process of gettin a new clutch. Thanks for the help.

crankwalk is extreamly rare, dont go jumping around saying you have it and whatnot...look at it this way, we all hear about peoples stomaches blowing up from eating poprocks and coke, but how many of you have auctually seen it??

off topic:
that was an urban legend from back in the 70s
in the story the "hey Mikey" kid from Life cereal died
they just did a show on Discovery about it and others like the guy with rocket car the blew up

(I think caffee was joking, also isnt your quote from the movie Patton)
