ok i know that there was a thread on this a while back but i cant seem to find it even after searching so im going to revisit it in this forum. if you goto mitsu and get a replacement oil filter they may give you a small one. there are 2 different sizes and they have different part numbers but its dark and i dont want to take a flashlight and look under my car right now. they will both work. however after talking to the guy at mitsu the smaller ones were made because people kept putting crap on their engines and clearance issues arised. our cars dont need the smaller filter, so the guy at mitsu recomended the bigger one because there was more filtration. if you get your oil changed at mitsu they will probably put on a big one because they have a surplus of them so you wont even have to ask for it. i just wanted to give this as a little heads up, and on another note the drain plug is a 17mm socket. i found that out after trying a bunch of the same sockets, all 18s of course  who knew that you could have that many 18mm sockets?

ok hope this helped someone

im thinking that i cant choose my filter.... i have to have the skinny one because the big one wont fit. whether or not you get the big or little one depends on manufacturer. Fram lists the small one for our motor, Napa lists the big one.

i dont think that there is a huge difference, the ones that i am talking about are the OEM mitsu ones. i dunno about the fram ones, the big one should fit as far as clearance goes, if it doesn't fit for another reason its the wrong filter.

When i bought my car, it had a big OEM mitsu filter on there so they will fit. currently i have a purolator on there, the best they make, can't remember the name. how much does the dealer charge for a filter btw? and i had a fram filter once, the "antidrain back" on those are cardboard and they will drain. plus fram made my lifters tick louder than ever, i switch to purolator and its almost gone. i'd still rather have OEM though.
