I've always used Mothers or Meguiars, but my brother-in -law is big on using Zaino on his Vette. Is it really that much better? I also noticed that there are several different products (1,2,3 ...) Which ones would I want to use?

I always used Zaino when I still had a car with good paint. I've never used anything that shined like it did and was always very happy with it. http://www.rambur.net/images/rmcgp_pic_day/mark_3.JPG (note reflection of trees, etc.). Zaino does have several products, and you will need at least a couple of them to do your car. First, Z1 is a "polish lock". It helps bond the polish to your car. Z2 or Z3 is the polish (Z2 for clear-coated paint, Z3 for non- clear-coated, IIRC). Also, Z6 is a gloss enhancer which helps add to the shine, and also has some anti-static thing in it which they claim helps repel dust. Basically, you apply the Z1 and let it haze. Apply the Z2 or Z3 (without removing the Z1), let it haze, then wipe off. Spray on the Z6 and wipe off. That's it. More coats lead to a deeper shine. The first application is a bit of work, but subsequent applications don't require the Z1, so it's really no more work than any other polish. It's always lasted quite a while for me and shines like a mofo. Info on everything is at www.zainobros.com. I can't remember if I have the product numbers correct, but if I'm wrong, the website will explain them correctly. Hope this helps.

My brother-in-law puts something on (must be the Z1) and leaves it on overnight, then puts another on (maybe Z2). What's with leaving the polish lock on so long?

i have been using zaino on my wife's mazda for 3 years. it is absolutely the best polish i have ever used. Z1 is the prep, you apply it to clean car, do not remove, then apply either Z2 gloss, or Z5 scratch remover. depending on temp and humidity, you let it sit for at least 30 min, then buff. you do NOT reapply another coat for 24 hours. there is a spray enhancer you can apply and re apply, but all the rest has to sit a day before another coat can be applied. also, you must remove all old wax, dishwashing detergent is recommended, dawn specifically. i first washed the car in dawn, then i clay-barred it, then i used the zaino car wash, then started with Z1. it is a bit of work at first, BUT, once you complete the initial process, every coat after that is so easy, it is amazing. and NOTHING sticks to the finish. no bird shit, no bugs, road tar, NOTHING. all types of residue come right off with a wash. also, you can layer it. unlike polishes, it does not remove the layer on the car, it just adds to it. one coat is supposedly good for 6 months, i have probably 30 coats on the car now, and i get compliments all the time. after the initial treatment, you can apply Z1 and Z5 in bright sun or shade, it dont matter. the ONLY down side, and an attirbute to it's composition, is you cannot wash out the pad you use to apply the polish, cause all kinds of soap i used will not take it out. i have to throw it away after each use.

I use zaino and it's the only stuff I'll use.
it's a full 12 step process if you want to do the whole works.
It takes a while but is great stuff. well worth the $$
I think it recently won an award of some type for best shine

there are some private distributors but I believe they are in the new york/jersey area.
