Someone was talking shiat to me the other day about how his 96 mustang gt is a real car and that four bangers are good for nothing. He claims a quarter mile of mid 13's. I wan't to race him and put him in his place but I am not sure if I can take him yet. My mods are:

-Free mods
-k n fiter
-hallman mbc
-boost gauge
-bushur upper ic pipe
-16g turbo
-2.5-3" downpipe
-3" testpipe
-3"mandrel bent catback

Do you think I can take him now? If not, what should I modify before I race him? I do not want to give dsm's a bad reputation.

any idea of his mods? the 96-98 model 4.6l was pretty slow. high 14's stock. back when i was stock i raced a 98GT with exhaust and he only put 3-4 cars on me from 0-100. most owners (from my experience) will put intake and exhaust (stock exhaust mani) and will claim 13's. matter of fact the guy i raced has those mods and claims a 13. i said i would race him anytime. as long as you are not racing for cash race him. whats the worse that could happen you would lose and he would talk mess. either that or would compliment you for keeping so close.

Get the boost as high as you can (safely) and make sure everything is in order. Pick a wet spot of pavement if you can, or not, and any way, launch the piss out of it. Rev like crazy before you start (maybe he'll get cocky and start revving too) and if he spins for 1/2 a second against a solid launch, he'll never catch up :)

i say race him
from a 50 roll, i tied a 91 5.0 and he had intake, full exhaust, and 3.45 gears, he was more experienced aswell, and did have a steeda tri-ax shifter... i was bone stock

you got alott work done dude, get a fuel pump and set your shit to 16psi and watch the mustang lose
if you get really nervoud, and cant launch, just rev to like 3000, wait for the arms to drop, got WOT and DUMP your clutch when your around 4800... thats what i do cuz i get butterflies like crazy when i race, and it works every time for me

i even beat a 95-97 or so GT and he had full exhaust and all i had was 17psi on stock EVERYTHING

just tag your launch dude, i think you will own him

cool, I already have a fuel pump coming in the mail. I will put it on and crank up the boost a little more then race him. He won't tell me what mods he has. All he tells me is that his car is fast and is in the mid 13's.

my boy has 3.55 gears in his stang

and i dunno what boost you should run, ask around, tell ppl what pump you got and that u got a 16g, is it a big or small 16g, ported, clipped?
i dunno, all i know is that everyone says i can go 16psi on either walbro pump and a stock 14b

so ask around the forums what boost is gonna be good for YOUR setup

and GL wit the stang, he is a chump for not telling you what he is running, but assume he can crack a high 13 if he is just a BPU car and can catch a good launch

I have a walbro pump on order and am currently running 15lbs boost. I will probably put the boost up to 18 when I race him. I think I have the reg 16g but I dont think there is much of a way to tell. When I got the car, the person before me replaced the stock turbo a few months earlier and couldn't find a new 14 b so they got a little bigger one. I checked the fins out a few days ago and found out that it was a 16g. I was pretty happy. :D

Let me explain something about mustang. Without a power adder they really don't have much top end. I would race any mustang if it didn't have a drag radial or slick.. Simple because the odds of them know how to launch their car are slim to none. How often do you see 1.9-2.0 60ft from a mustang on street tires? I could do it with ease, but most stangs I raced spin 1st gear. Race him, he probably can't drive and is just magazine racing

havnt been to the track yet have you? 2 years ago when i first brought my dsm to the track i was lined up with a newer mustang, no idea what year though. he was saying he ran mid 13's and bla blabla and i was thinking to myself man im gonna get my ass kicked.....all i had was my k&n, boost controller and free mods. i ran like a 13.9 or so and he was in the 14's, haha. now my list of mods has grown and just recently i got my 16g! thanks to mike at SBR, group buys kick! so i definatly think u can run better than my 13.7 back when i was almost stock

If that is the impression you got from driving your 91 then you got a dog or mass-air Stangs really are shit! My full exhaust 88 with stock 2.73 crap gears went a verified 155MPH. Thanks to a long 4th gear. The car trapped 99mph with those mods.

I used to race my buddies 93 TSI with BC, BCS removal, and muffler. I would get pulled off the line (AWD) then by top of 2nd I would have 2 cars then by the top of 3rd I would have about 5 cars.

Like I said maybe you got a bad one but every Stang I have owned (88,88,91) have had exceptional top end.

im going to agree with mr AtaxicStanger
when my car was running stock boost, just hacked air can, free mods, and plugs/wires... i WALKED a 99 gt from a 50 roll, and it was uphill to boot
he was auto, so i think he had an advantage cuz he was gonna get the jump on me and he did
he also had hella more torque then i did
they just dont have the power for weight up top
2valves per cylinder just hurts the old 5.0
(correct me if im wrong, but not until recently did anything but a cobra have 4 valvers per cylinder)

when my boy had 2.73 gears in his 91, he did OK at highway races, but only cuz he had the skill and the sac to go 5-2 and not spin second gear
now he's got 3.73's and he says it himself he cant do much on the highway, he's gotta pray for traction, even when he has 275's mounted on 17x9 cobra R's

either way, this kid is gonna rock that mustand when he races it

AtaxicStanger... u got times for that car?? PM me, a kid in my town is going 347 wit a procharger, has pretty much all the same bolt-on goodies as you... around here fox body stangs are everywhere, im friends with them all cuz they know i can hang wit them i guess... problly why i know a good bit about them

If it's a Cobra yes it's a 4 valver, but if it's a GT then it's just 2 valve/cyl. The '96-'98 4.6L's are okay engines, but don't have the torque the old 5.0's have. They do sound great though, but don't have much in the way of balls. ...well unless you mod the crap out of 'em.

Location: Minnesota

damn dude, i didnt see check your location before
be very careful, line up a good 10 feet away from him, and if you have any doubt in the road surface you wanna race on, be the bigger man and back out
BFD if some high school punks wanna talk down about your car, take my word for it, 1 accident can affect you in MANY ways for years to come dude
at this point, you might as well wait until spring break nah mean?
