My alternator belt is squealing like a banshee no matter what I do. I had my alternator replaced about a year ago after it crapped out and put a new belt on it. Well about a week later it was screaming like crazy so I took it to the shop across the street so that they could tighten it as much as possible. It was good for about a week and screamed again. So I figured it was a defective belt and put a new one on. Same thing, screaming. So I took it to the shop to see if the alternator was messed up. It wasn't, but they suggested a new belt and tightening it like crazy. So, I had them do it to make sure. Well, it was good for about a week again and now it's screaming again. Is there any hope for me, or do I need to wait until it warms up before this stops?

Thanks

Make sure to tighten the bolt that locks it in place. I had the same problem the shop was just tightening the tension bolt and shortly after it would come loose. I took it back to them 3 times and they couln't get it right so i did it my self and havn't had problems since.

I'll try that out, thanks

Make sure everything's tight, especially the belt...Chrysler-made cars have notoriously loud alternator belt squealing problems. Mine was just going nuts, and i had to change the belt, because I put a UR crank pulley on my car, it ate through the belt...changed that and the power steering belt, and it's 100% silent:D Don't use belt dressing!!! That shit is like pure tar, and it can screw up your pullies...don't use any belt dressing, it's the wrong way to go about this. If you change the belts, spray the pullies with some intake cleaner, and let them air dry for about 5-10 minutes, then wipe them off with a clean cloth. Then you can put the new belts on, and it should be quiet unless there's something else wrong

Mine's a mitsubishi motor, but thanks. I'll do my best, I wasn't planning on using the dressing anyway. I may try the intake cleaner though, thanks again everyone!
