I was thinking of getting the HKS 264/272 combo for my Talon but I wanted to know from people who have done cams are they really worth the $500+ for the power they give? Also what about cam gears too? Are they worth it? Thanks for any info

I really like the way they (264/272) make the car behave. Not really sure about how much power I got from it, but the car has a much smoother powerband, and is easier to tune. I do get a higher Hz reading than I used to, so I would assume it's flowing more air.

first i saw the 14b was gonna say dont bother, but read below =p

i think youll see a nice power increase, theyll be good with the larger turbo also.i think theyre worth it.

first what are the garrett specs? what do you have for a rev limit (if not stock)? im assuming the head is stock (since you didnt say anything about it)?

for a good HKS thread read this kick ass review by nukefussion. http://www.dsmtalk.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=69593&highlight=rebuilt+head+retainers

this thread is also good, it is a compliation of MANY cam reviews.

oh yeah, when you say worth it, what do you mean. HP wise? trap wise?

dollar for dollar, juice will get you a LOT more hp and get you way faster for that 500.

Cams are how a lot of the 12 second 14b's occur too. They are a good investment depending on your stage. -Ian

Thanks for the replies everyone. Sorry I didnt give more info before. Okay the motor is totally stock for now. The turbo is a T3/T4 50 series/stage3/.63ar with a T-netics ex. manifold and a tial 35mm wastegate. FMIC, 650 injectors, S-AFC, 2G MAS, Eprom ecu with 7800 rev limit, blah blah you get the idea, everything to make the turbo work right is there. My question was just do those who have cams feel that the money was well spent on them, meaning you think they make a big enough difference to warrant spending over $500, OR do you feel that the difference they make is minor and the money could be better spent elsewhere on the car, like towards a built bottom end for example. How much power is generally gained from putting in a set of cams and how will it effect 1/4 mile time and speed, plus driveability differences. Thanks again
