I bought a extrememotorsports stiff shift kit, and i was looking at the symborski stiff shift kit and they both seem to do the same thing but there is so much more to the symborski. What is the difference, do they each do two individual things? The extreme kit is one piece of rectangular aluminum with two holes drilled in it and it replaces something on the shifter assembly i havent put it on yet so im not sure. The Symbrorski kit has like 10 washers and another longer piece.

What is the difference

I have the symborski. The washers are machined to match up witht the shifter assembly bracket where it mounts to the body. The long piece goes in the upper part of the shifter assembly to stiffen side to side movement. The symborski kit basically stiffens the whole feel of the shifter. Do this in conjunction with metal or urethane bushings for the linkage under the hood and your shifting will feel crisper than ever.

These guys sell a nice and cheap linkage metal bushing kit.

I have the Extreme shifter cable bushing, and it made a big difference in how the car shifted. I also have the energy suspension bushing kit - but I would like to get the Symborski kit instead, just have yet to get around to doing it yet. Much better feel and surer shifts with this set up. Two thumbs up.

they are different, I have both

but the Symborski are "washers" that hold the shifter down in the cockpit, replace the rubber ones, give it a firmer feel and a nice (IMO) "ca-chunk" when you shift.

the Extreme's Stiff Shift Kit is also a pice of metal that replaces rubber but it goes under the hood on the tranny.
Overpriced (w/ $7 shipping & their directions are terrible),
not AS noticeable, but also helps (IMHO)

BTW you can DIY these 2 with washers and lock-washers

hmm, but you put the extreme kit on in the car by taking off the boot and what not right? the directions are very bad, i was like wtf, they gave me a black and white pic that i could barely tell if it was my shifter or a racoon.

So the purpose of the symborski is the cachunk shifting, and the extreme kit and that other site do what.

wow, so if you wanted to go hardcore and replace all the bushings with metal then you could buy all three kits?? can anyone think of any cons for this??
Pain from kicking yourself for not doing it earlier??
Having to learn to drive all over again because you actually get it into gear more often??

The biggest con I can think of is the Extreme bushing kit, bitch to get to unless you have the tranny off at the time.....

where do you go into to get to it, i thought it was in the car under the shifter? if it isnt and its on the tranny would it be easy if it was on a lift

the Extreme one is easy to do

on a 2G
remove the 2nd upper IC hoes the one that goes to the TB
the part goes right under that
if you shine a light you can see it and the cables end (#12)

if you really want I can post a pic of it, installed

I thought the extreme kit was useless... I am not sure if I felt a difference at all.. oh I did feel my wallet about $27 lighter noticably. ;)
That's what I always thought by looking at what it replaces. I don't know about you guys by I don't have any rubber on that shifter bracket piece under the hood. On my car the only two places to eliminate rubber is at the shifter and at the cable ends where they connect to the arms.

The link I posted was for the speed source under hood linkage bushing kit. The symborski kit goes at the base of the shifter itself. It won't shorten the throw, but it will make it nice and solid. I think extreme sells a short throw shifter for the 1G. turbotrix might also.

www.extrememotorsports.com
www.turbotrix.com
www.machv.com sells the symborski kit...

http://www.infobottle.com/ has details on the symborski shift kit.

The Extreme short shifter is just a cut down stock shifter. I wouldn't say it shortens the throw too much but it does make the knob sit lower. I have one laying around I'd be willing to let go of for a small fee if ya wanna PM me. I luckily upgraded to the Mofugas (which is a whole lot better IMHO) before they closed down.

I have the symborski and it is a world of difference vs stock. The only bad thing now is that the transmission cant keep up with me and i grind alot more often now, just cause I can shift that much faster.

My car has rubber on the linkage under the hood... the part where the bracket bolts onto the transmission case... it has two rubber bushings. There's also the two bushings on the ends of the cables.
