AEM EMS; Who has one? How do you like it? Looking for input.

I'm trying to get in touch with some DSM owners who actually own an EMS. I am looking to buy one but I'm trying to get as much information as I can from people who actually own one. Is it easy to use? Has the customer support really been there? Is the MAP sensor mod all that its cracked up to be? Do you have any regrets? What are some of the negative aspects? If you just post in here saying you have one, I could email you if you don't feel like typing here. I have registered with the EMS forum and I'm learning everything I can, but I'm try ing to get more input.

If you hate the EMS and think its a waste of money.... that isn't what I'm asking about. Please don't reply with about all the other options and how much better they are for the money. I'm looking for useful information about the EMS.

I don't think a alot of people have one yet... so I won't be surprised if this thread doesn't get much of a response. It can't hurt to ask though.

Mods, please forgive me if I posted in the wrong forum.

I have one, not installed though yet heh. I ordered the MAP and IAT sensors required to convert to speed density (ditch the MAS). I am waiting on their arrival. The base map they just released is for a 1G MAP setup with 660's and a larger turbo then I have, so I am going to convert the 660s to 450s and then keep removing fuel as knock/EGT/AF dictates. The EMS is pretty much the end all be all ECU for cars. I am planning on implementing its turbo timer, boost control, two step, and possibly some anti lag features as I learn more. I am always up to chat about it, AIM is in my profile. -Ian

I would have said the Motec was the end all of ECUs. Followed by the Haltek and the Link2.

My friend has one on his blown Type R and it is one cool piece of technology and I'm considering one for my care when I get to the point that the stock MAF/ECU can't handle things anymore.

I have an EMS installed in my 1g. First thing, you MUST use a wideband with it if you want to get anywhere. Whether it is a dyno or one of the wideband kits. Oz makes a good cheap one. It really does have alot of aspects to it. At first it is overwhelming, but once you get the grasp of what each map does it isn't too bad.

I am still running a 2g MAS for now. The hardest part I have had is getting the idle straightened out. I have the parts and will be switching to a coil on plug setup soon, no more wasted spark! The MAP system will probably go on when I put my new turbo on next month.

If you are good at tuning your car and understand all of the concepts about it, it is a great system. If you aren't able to explain how the sensors affect the way the car runs, this isn't the system for you.

The customer support is great and the forums help alot too. You WILL have to devote some time to it and there will be a learning curve. I am very glad I went with it and love knowing that I can get my car running near it's peak after every mod.

I have an EMS in my 1g now as well and I'm running it with a MAP. I haven't had a lot of time to mess with it and my wideband just got here and it's not yet installed, but I have the car running farily well up to 20 psi of boost. As someone said earlier, it's very overwhelming and I was very quick to reach out to people for help but to be honest, playing with it was the only way to learn how to use it and if you get stumped the AEM forum is an incredible resource for help.

With regard to features, I will probably only use 15% of what this thing can do. It is insane, and I am only going to use the bare minimum in terms of features but utilize 100% of the tuning capabilities.

PS- Sorry for saying this but the 1g base calibration for MAP was shit and didn't even get my car to kick over although I've heard the MAS calibrations are good.

I just got my EMS hasn't been put on my car, I"m wainting on the 3 bar map sensor and IAT sensor that I also ordered. I got a deal with lots of dyno time with mine, so I will be posting up results as soon I get it in my car and tuned. Oh yeah it's going in a 98 GSX with a t3-t4.

I have been researching the AEM and wanted to see what you all thought about the deal Horsepowerfreaks.com has right now. I don't know if this link will work, but here.

Horsepowerfreaks Complete EMS Package. This kit comes with everything you will need to set up your car with the top of the line stand-alone system for your Eclipse or Talon.

Contains:

AEM EMS for Eclipse/Talon
FJO Wideband o2 Kit (w/ Red display and wide-band o2 sensor)
3.5 Bar AEM MAP Sensor
Intake Air Temp Sensor & Connector
GM Boost Control Solenoid & Connector

Goes for about $2099 which is a pretty decent seeing what all you get. I'm either going with something like this or a DSMLink setup with wideband o2. Although it would be nice to ditch the MAS, and I am willing to learn how to correctly use the AEM. Ah well, back to researching and what not...
