OK Here's my thought.....:rolleyes::rolleyes:

What if you took and drilled holes 2 holes 90 deg. apart though the narrow portion (looking down on the mount as though it was in the car). Then drill another hole through the mount from the side (The same way the sleeve goes through the mount) in each qaudrant created by the 90 Deg. holes.

I may not be explaining myself clearly here:confused:, but the idea is to create some holes in the mount and give it a little flex without making so weak that it would just tear apart.

What are some opinions on this?? Dos it seem like it would work??

I actaully have two sets of the Prothane mounts for the sides and back (Only One Front Mount, but that still uses the original rubber anyways), and I was thinking about trying this. I just wondered if anyone has ever tried anything similar or if I am way off base??

Thanks for any insight,

Eric

If you were going to do that, what would be the point of installing them in the first place. Drilling holes in it will probably cause the polyurethane to crack since it will be prone to flex and move under hard loads. I would not recommend drilling it.

I wouldn't see why you would do that, not only would you make the stuff weaker and more acceptiable to being torn apart, there would be no change in engine vibration just drilling two holes. If that is what bothers you then just remove them.

Here's why I'm at this juncture:

My original mounts were so torn up they needed to be replaced, Yet, satan:takethat: wants $400 for new mounts. I am trying to come up with a way to make what I have work while keeping the vibration to a minimum.

Trust me I can take some vibration and noise (I own a Z-28 that you can hear coming from about a mile away), but when my whole entire steering wheel vibrates:(:(, I feel like I'm in massage chair at the highest setting plus 10:), and the radio has to be turned up to ungodly levels just so I can barely hear it:( I think I need to solve this problem.

I understand that this will defeat some of the purpose of this type of motor mount, but if I can come up with a compromise between Ear-Deafening/Teeth Chattering vibration and the overpriced Stock Crap rubber mounts then I would be happy.

Thanks for the input, but I was hoping maybe for constructive thoughts on why this might or might not work, not the "Well Why Did You Buy Them In The First Place Answers??":dunno:zzzz

The noise problem with your radio could be fixed with Dynamat. Just add some to the back of your fw and to the underside of your hood. Your prothane mounts are about as stiff as they come. I have some energy suspension ones that are a bit softer if you want to trade yours for mine.

I don't think drilling a hole in them is going to make them vibrate any less.

My adivse is just to wait a while. When I first got mine in, I wanted to take them out too, because it was BAD! But, after a couple weeks of driving they settled in and I really don't even remember they are in there anymore.

Get a set of used (but good) mounts from a junkyard and fill the gaps with WindoWeld - which should make them last a bit longer while making them a bit stiffer as well... ;)

I thought of that, but around here in the NE we seem to have quite a bit of a demand for parts like this, every Junkyard I talked to doesn't have any worth while Motor Mounts:(:( or even a car to check for that matter. I always hate to buy Junkyard parts without looking at what you are getting, especially something like Motor Mounts...

I have actually discussed this with a few others and it seems that the opinion is that the Prothane Mounts are just too stiff, even if you drill holes the feeling is that they will still cause vibration.

I am still debating on what to do, but when my Tranny comes back from TRE, I know that I will at least try the new set of Prothane in there and then if they still vibrate:( I may try drilling some holes.

Thanks,

Eric:)
