Dump tube mod?

Can someone pleas explain to me what a dump tube mod is. i've heard that it is a way to prevent boost spike under high psi. and that it vent some exaust through the muffler and some through a dump tube without a muffler. if someone can explain this to me that would be cool. thx.

Dump tube "mod" is when the exhaust gas that exits through the wastegate isn't directed down the downpipe but rather a separate pipe that just throws it into the atmostphere. Checkout turbotrix.com for an example...

Or you can get one that dumps back into the exhaust stream with no less performance unless you have some major horsepower. It is much quieter and you don't have hot exhaust dumping out under your car which could be detrimental to stuff around the dump tube plus it's cleaner.

ok, so the exaust dumps out another tube,in adition to the standard exaust but how does it prevent boost spike? or improve performance? by the way, can someone also explain boost spike. i understand that the dump tube is after the wastegate, but what causes boost spike, is it too must back pressure from the exaust forcing more air back through the turbo?

rather than recirculating the wasted exhaust into the restrictive o2 housing and downpipe it vents it to the atmosphere.
this reduces backpressure, boost spike, boost creep, and gives power. lots of it.
it is quite loud though.
