Hey guys. This thread is for my 2WD brethren. How many of you have upgraded both the front and rear sway bars? If so, how much of a difference do you notice. Did any of you just do one (either front or rear) first? What brand did you end up going with?

I was thinking of just installing a rear suspension techniques sway bar to give me more neutral handling. I say this, but she honestly doesn't understeer badly at all, but I think that's due to the suspension I have installed and the extra weight from my subs/amp in the trunk.

I'd appreciate your comments.
Cheers! :)

Ive heard great things about the RMDSM anti-sway bars, and the ST ones are supposed to be good too(and they are adjustable).
In my opinion you can get good results by just doing the rear, but why not the front too?
Just don't do the front only, talk about wicked understeer if you do..

Haha, seriously. I'd probably wrap her around a tree :)

So yeah, I guess I just wanted some empiracal evidence as to the benefits of not doing the front. I figure the more anti-sway you have in the front, the more understeer you'll create. So why not just leave the front stock and just bump up the rear.

I do like the look of the RM kit though. Very nice :)

Thanks fellas!

I guess it depends on what you want your car to handle like. Do you want crazy oversteer, or a more netrual ride. Thats why I want to get the ST's because they are adjustable and I can set it like I like it. I wish I could test drive someones car that has just the rear done though, I would like to see how it handles...just hard to convince someone to let you drive there car hard enough to see if it oversteers or understeers :)

Seriously, I bitch-slapped my friend for sliding the ass-end of my car around a corner... oh no, this was UNINTENTIONALLY. He hammered the brakes while mid-turn

Doesn't Suspension Techniques only make rear sway bars for 2G's? Do they make an adjustable front too?

? ? A front should make it turn in more quickly, not understeer. Generally, a sway bar upgrade will reduce the grip at the _other_ end from where it's installed.

Here is a good thread that I found on it.

It has to do with the fact that a stiff rear anti sway bar will try to lift the rear inside tire in a turn. Since the car has less traction in the rear(one tire is being pulled off the ground)it promotes oversteer. Plus, since the cars weight is now on 3 tires(effectivly)that puts more traction on the front tires, therefore increasing front grip, and lets you accelerate harder out of a turn.
Puting a stiff anti sway bar up front does the oppisite. It trys to pull the inside front tire off the ground in a turn, there for putting keeping the weight on the back tires. Also, since the front tires are the drive tires you lose the ability to accelerate out of a turn(esspecially with an open diff).
Now with a RWD car it is a bit oppisite. If you want to be able to accelerate hard out of a turn you want a bigger front bar, this puts the weight on the rear wheels and lets you get on the throttle harder when you are comming out of the turn.
The easiest way to think of it is
On a FWD car, on a really tight corner, you want the inside REAR wheel to lift off the ground.
On a RWD car, on a really tight corner, you want the inside FRONT wheel to lift off the ground.
Its a bit counter intuitive.

ps, if I screwed anything up , please correct me

I have the ST adjustable rear swaybar on my 1G fwd, and I love it, my car handled so much better after it was installed. You can really feel a difference in the adjustments too...very impressed.

when i bought my talon it looks like it has a sway bar in the rear, its red and its pretty thick, but only in the rear, i think it handles pretty good, it seems like the ass kicks out just a little bit, my 2g liked to understeer alot more then this does
