the end may not be near after all...

well, i do understand how that would seem similar, but...

last year i had a BRAND NEW shortblock put in by mitsubishi b/c of crankwalk

so the shortblock is new. as for the louder lifter noise... its not like i DONT know where its coming from. i can actually watch the pulley moving back and forth and hit against the cover behind it (cover for the crank). and there is a chunk of rubber that seems to be "gone" that should be there. so after careful consideration, im pretty sure its just the pulley. besides, it happened after i tightened my alternator belt, so im guessing that the slight tightening was just enough to trigger an already-dying pulley to finally crap out on me.

i could be wrong... but ill hope and pray that im not. :D

thanks tho, ill keep my eye out for any signs of that

does anyone know if the pulley comes with everything ill need to replace the old one?

just curious
All that is needed besides the pulley is you. :p

Release the two accessory belts. Raise the front of the car and place it on stands. Remove the front wheel. Remove the plastic undercovers. Remove the four small mounting capscrews on the pulley.

Replacement is the reverse. Make sure the accessory belts are in their correct grooves.

astroboy

DO NOT PUT ANOTHER 7 BOLT IN THERE!!

If you really need to be a tight ass get a 6-bolt 1g short block and out that in there.

Seriously I'd rather have an untouched 80k 6bolt block than a rebuilt 7-bolt.

For a little more money get gasket set, ARP rod bolts and a FILE FIT ring set. Have a machinst prep the bores for new rings. Even just reringing a stock pistoned engine with tighter but in spec rings will improve things.

yeah, actually this was the second 6 bolt that was in there. They have both been strokers that have come apart on me. The second was a full tilt race built 6 bolt. Not sure what the deal is, but there is definately never going to be another 7 bolt back in the monster...

yeah i was considering putting a 6 bolt in mine... only when i spoke to the guy from mitsu graveyard, he made it seem like an unstable and complicated set-up to put it in a 2G. he said all these things i should replace if i do it, and it didnt seem worth it.

the 6 bolt was a complicated setup??? I think it was fairly painless - better than a dose of crankwalk (had enough of that)...I dont believe in that 7 bolt design at all, "they dont build em like they used to"

yeah i hear ya... well, if my crank decided to ever go again, ill definitely be considering the 6 bolt...

haha, one more thing...

i just got my pulley today from conicelli, and it looks a little different... though im sure itll fit. (just LOOKS different(

anyway, during the shipping process it must have chipped. theres a little piece of the rim of the pulley chipped off, and the piece that broke off is also in the box. i mean, is it okay if its chipped? the part thats chipped wont affect anything, but still... what do you guys think?

Maybe it was Airborne Express and they flew over and dropped it from the plane. I'd want a different pulley.

Airborne Express did actually... i installed it with the chip in it... haha. oh well.

hey guys... the old, bad pulley was F*CKED up... as soon as i took the four screws out (tightest screws i ever dealt with) the middle part of the pulley just slid out from the outer ring of the pulley. it was crazy. its just fell apart. how the hell does a pulley just become like that? its nuts.

anyway, thanks for the help dudes... as always, the dsm community has helped me with a problem.
