Well after adjusting my fuel pressure about eight times in the past three days, I decided to do a

:D

Low and behold, I find a comment by Taboo mentioning that the fuel pressure solenoid is known to cause varying fuel pressure. I completely disconnected the FPS and threw it in my garage. Several test drives later and the FP stays set rock solid :) . I now have perfect O2's all the way through third... awesome!

I did find several other unanswered threads asking why there fuel pressure kept changing, but this was the only one that had an answer. I thought I would make a little post in case others weren't aware of it.

Thanks Taboo! :)

so with the stock fpr and solenoid your fuel pressure varies? does it always vary the same or is it random. im about to get a gauge and afpr, where is the fp solenoid located?

Well I don't know about your first question as I only had the gauge installed on the fuel filter previously. It stayed pretty constant there but I would expect that.

With the AFPR the stock FPS seemed to be causing my FP to fluctuate quite dramatically (~5psi). After removing it I have had MUCH more consistent FP readings :)

If you follow from the end of the fuel raid (near the timing belt cover), you will find two hoses that attach to the stock FPR. The larger diameter one is the fuel line and the smaller is the vacuum line. If you follow the vacuum line you should find a little plastic unit bolted to the firewall which then feeds back to the intake manifold. There you go, lemme know if you have any trouble finding it.

So just run a single line from the intake manifold to the AFPR (plus the T for the boost gauge;) )? What about the FPS? You said you just took it out, but what about the electrical connector? It's fine to just be hanging there unplugged?

Unless someone tells me otherwise (Taboo?), I think that is okay. I have the connector zip tied to something nearby. I wouldn't leave anything dangling over there though... have you seen all those belts? :D

LOL, well yeah I didn't mean to just let it fall down there. Thanks man :) .

Sorry to open such an old thread, but just for the archives, I wanted to chime in and say that on a 2G you can't leave the wiring harness unplugged or you will get a CEL. Just leave it plugged in-- and you don't need to cap off the FPS nipples either, just in case anyone was wondering.
