ok my friend tells me that's the idle speed control motor, and that on the 2g, it is probably on the inner side of the runners, facing the block? anyone confirm?
Yep. The EGR is just below the contorller you pictured. In 2G's it's a little harder to see. It would be easier removing the upper intercooler S pipe to get at it.

Its funny cause my dealer searched every engine and they couldn't find the block off plate listed. Even the 1.8's showed having an egr. Also the non cruise throttle cable doesn't have a listing, it just has a part number, which worked for me.

So I ended up getting a $6 peice of Al from Home Depot Racing and made mine. I could probably make a dozen more of these. Also some shops that sell these don't even charge shipping if that is all that gets ordered.

just curious but does it seem that only 1gs are doing this? is it only for 1g's?

where is the diagram located for this EGR situation? i have my car all riped apart and i wanted to do this..i know a guy with a 2g GSX and i said i wanted to do it and he had like a shit fit..hes like that ruins the car or something ,and it'll shoot flames, and the flames get sucked into the turbo.. i was like sure...so anyone have anything to say about that?

i must really be retarded tonight, because i didn't even realize there was 2 pages to this post..sorry about the retoricle (sp) question for the diagram which is provided, above...also i appolgies for the double post.

Tell your SAE certified mechanic buddy with the GSX that there will be a technical write up discussed during the upcoming 2 Fast 2 Furious movie and that will justify all that he believes about the EGR block-off plate shooting flames into the turbo! :p

Back when I was doing my motor rebuild, I walked in with the "1.8L EGR blockoff plate" Mitsu part number on my shopping list. The parts guy told me it's no longer manufactured, and he looked through all the CAPS records for the 1.8, and they all had EGR valves pictured. Funny thing is, my first DSM was a 94 1.8L A/T Eclipse, and it had the blockoff plate instead of an EGR valve (funny to me because all 94s had CA emissions... I figured it would have EGR). A buddy of mine bought that 94 1.8 car from me, and I bought my 92... he totalled the 94, and I forgot to get the EGR plate off of it before it went to the yard. Oh well. (And did I mention that it sucks to see your old car get totalled?)

Anyway, they don't make the dealer 1.8L blockoff plate anymore. So the only options are:

- find a 1.8 car with the blockoff plate in a junkyard
- buy a blockoff plate from a DSM vendor (i.e. Dejon, FFWD)
- make your own because it's incredibly simple.

People have been doing the coke can EGR blockoff for years. The factory EGR gasket is actually thin aluminum, and the exhaust doesn't burn it at all. It's moderately ghetto, but it works...

It's not about the cost of the block-off plate, but removing unnecessary junk from the engine bay after the emission controls removal - otherwise one could also opt to leave the charcoal canister, all hoses and solenoids in place ...
I understand that I can remove some of the vacuum lines going to and from the EGR solenoid, but exactly what other lines can I remove. Can I really get rid of that charcoal cannister? I want to clean up the bay as much as possible so that I can install a "catch can" and MSD ignition box. Bill Spruill, oldest Colt

Although I'm not really familiar with the Colt emission controls, the same principles apply to most cars. The only vacuum/boost lines one has to keep is the line from the intake manifold to the brake booster, the line from the intake manifold to the BOV (on turbo cars) "T"ed off to MBC and WGA and, finally, the line from the intake manifold to the FPR ("T"ed off to boost gauge). Any nipples located on the intake between the air filter and the TB, on the TB and the intake manifold need to be plugged while nipples of solenoids or the thermocouple can stay unplugged.

Oh boy.....Flames into the turbo.......... ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!

I'm going to remove all the emissions stuff this weekend and was wondering what you guys do after you intall the block off plate. Do you just leave the EGR on there with all the vacuum lines disconnected or do you remove the EGR valve and then install shorter bolts so the block off plate stays on?
