Its funny cause my dealer searched every engine and they couldn't find the block off plate listed. Even the 1.8's showed having an egr.
Back when I was doing my motor rebuild, I walked in with the "1.8L EGR blockoff plate" Mitsu part number on my shopping list. The parts guy told me it's no longer manufactured, and he looked through all the CAPS records for the 1.8, and they all had EGR valves pictured. Funny thing is, my first DSM was a 94 1.8L A/T Eclipse, and it had the blockoff plate instead of an EGR valve (funny to me because all 94s had CA emissions... I figured it would have EGR). A buddy of mine bought that 94 1.8 car from me, and I bought my 92... he totalled the 94, and I forgot to get the EGR plate off of it before it went to the yard. Oh well. (And did I mention that it sucks to see your old car get totalled?)
Anyway, they don't make the dealer 1.8L blockoff plate anymore. So the only options are:
- find a 1.8 car with the blockoff plate in a junkyard
- buy a blockoff plate from a DSM vendor (i.e. Dejon, FFWD)
- make your own because it's incredibly simple.
People have been doing the coke can EGR blockoff for years. The factory EGR gasket is actually thin aluminum, and the exhaust doesn't burn it at all. It's moderately ghetto, but it works...
