I raced a good friend today after I got my RS*R exhaust put on. This is only my 2nd real race in this car so I'm still trying to figure out just how fast it really is.

1st run ------ Flagger jumps the gun and I try and launch (if you could call it that) at 3k rpms. I bog but still put his nose at my rear bumper by the time we hit the finish line.

2nd run ------ Pretty good launch puts me ahead from the start and puts him further back (maybe 1/2 carlength extra).

3rd run ------ It was agreed that he could have a rolling start and I had to go from a stop. He was going about 10mph when we evened up but I destroyed him regardless and was easily 1-2 carlenghts infront of him by the finish line.

His truck has headers, chip, full exhaust, intake, msd ignition, slightly wider tires, and a few other freebies. I've got everything in my sig + RS*R as of today. I know that a R/T isn't anything to brag about but I'm finaly getting a better picture of how my car is performing. Next up is a DP + highflow cat + pocketlogger all of which I hope will push me past a 14.5.

Thanks for any comments.

Um, his truck should be running 14.0-14.5 at worst......

However, R/Ts already cannot possibly hook on the street and against an AWD car it's even worse.

So, congrats.

Close-minded ignorant responses like that make me reconsider joining what I thought was the wonderful DSM community as I have to sell my baby, my "slow R/T".......

Fuhgeddaboutit. Some people are going to be close-minded. Some kids who've just entered the enthusiast community don't know anything but DSMs, and for them, there isn't anything else on the street that compares. Sucks, but you can't really hold it against them. As they get older, things'll change.

By and large, the DSMtalk community is comprised of older enthusiasts that have been in the DSM world for awhile, or have come into DSM ownership from other communities (former Honda owners, V8 owners, etc.).

If you're really interested in DSMs and DSMtalk, just ignore comments like this. Don't even respond to them. The close-minded ones will either learn, or they'll mouth off enough to get themselves booted.

One thing DSMtalk is great at is publicly humiliating the obviously ignorant newbies. :D

Err '98?

Yeah, 2 cars back I had a '99 Intense Blue Reg Cab Dak R/T. Thing was great an all for canning hondas, but even with headers, exhaust, CAI, and a chip i ran a BEST of 14.54 on street tires. I bought a set of Durango 15" rims and some DOT drag slicks off a guy at atco but never got a chance to use them before the godsend of the buyback :).

Anywho, i can tell you from experience of owning BOTH vehicles (I have a '97 GSX now) that the little eclipse that could will tear the ballbags off a non-blown street tire running R/T any day of the week. The R/T's in bone stock form would be LUCKY to run a 15.4 in the best of conditions. I've met and talked with quite a few Dak R/T owners over the years (Matter of fact i used to host www.dakotart.com for Niles years back at an ISP i worked at). My first run bone stock on my eclipse i ran a best of 14.89.

I'm not trying to start a fight. I know all too well how touchy car owners can be when someone talks smack about their trucks (And to add to it, i fregging loved that truck to death, uber fun to drive) but the facts have to be faced. The R/T is still a great ride, but compared to an AWD monster that can run low 14's to high 13's on free mods its not really a fair race at all.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm not closed minded. I just dont like R/T's. They were all hiped up and were all show and no go.
Im sorry if you guys dont like my response that the dakota R/T is slow but it is and thats not my fault. I just stated a true fact!
I'm sorry if I hurt you feelings.

YDRSBTR Im not a kid check my profile.

Why would you even consider the "community" when buying a car?? It's not like you're suddenly going to be hanging out with each and every one of us.

Fair enough.

I'm even more surprised, then, to see a reply like that from someone of your age level. Is it OK for LS1 owners to make the blanket statement that 'DSMs are slow'...?

If thats THEIR OPINION then thats fine. Im not gonna whine if somebody says my car is slow. Opinions are what keep life interesting. Without them it would be boring and bland.

Well, maybe we should ask everyone to keep their opinions to themselves. If we did that then we could save lots and lots of space on DSMtalk forums.

Ok,I probably shouldn't have called his truck slow, so once again.DaPurpleRT I am sorry if I offended you.:tree:

Well, actually, stock RC R/TS generally run 14.8-15.0, some have hit 14.5 bone stock. Mine ran 15.2 on bald tires and a 150lb tonneau cover/bedliner combo with a crappy 2.2 60ft. The RSAS will yield a 2.0 if not totally worn so if my tires weren't bald you can see even with the extra weight it would've been 14s.....
Not sure why they're so slow?? Do you even consider there 4000+lb and are still the quickest NA truck EVER produced? NOt trying to offend, but I don't think DSMs are the quickest stock 4 cylinders, compacts, or turbo cars ever produced.....

The quickest pure bolt-on truck (Stock heads, stock cam, stock tranny, etc) with bolt-ons is running 13.0@103MPH. That is of course on slicks.

AWD owns on the street, unless the RWDs are wearing their MT ET streets.

The quickest all out R/T is daily driven and runs mid 10s@135MPH. It's all stock bodied weighing in at 4800lb, it's a club cab, ahs AC, stereo, power everything.

These trucks have only been out since 98 and they're getting quicker and quicker so I expect that record will soon be broken. It's not even a 408 stroker or anything...

I've said my piece and hopefully educated a few. :)

Anyhow, calling a 4000lb NA pickup that runs roughly the same times as your AWD turbo sports car stock "slow" boggles my mind. They are clogged from the factory so bolt-ons yield 13s.

Oh well, some people will jsut be closeminded I guess. I apologize if I offended anyone....

Stock R/T= ~14.5
Stock AWD dsm = ~15.0

If we consider an R/T "slow" we can conclude that an AWD DSM is "slower than slow".

Exactly.

BTW - is your 45G internally or externally gated? :D

Yeah, but my friend w/ a cyclone motor in his FWD Talon still smoked me on some highway rolls after he upped the boost! LOL!

Anyhow, I absolutely love DSMS and mine will not be slow by any means. Within a month of geting it at most it will be considerably faster than my truck.

Modding will be so much easier without a car payment and with being able to get just liability insurance. :)

Externally, of course!!!:D  :D

I'm sorry but I just got a good kick outta this thread. There are some comments by "Mr. Closeminded" that have just cracked me up. "3100lbs isnt that much less than 4000lbs" Now what math did you take?? Cause that's a good 900 pounds which is almost 1/3 the weight of the DSM. Case closed on that one. Anyway purple R/T have fun with your DSM. I'd love to own a turbo but low paying jobs + college = NO WAY. Once I'm outta college I'm hoping to be the happy owner of a GSX or talon AWD. I've always liked the big dodge 5.9. Most trucks that have it usually give off a nice growl and i'm sure those R/T's have gotta be great for some nice tire roasting fun :D

Ahh and I almoast forgot, "they have a 360 compared to my little 4 banger" Ahem, FORCED INDUCTION!!!! The truck is NA, Its like saying a TT supra vs an old camaro with a 305 that the supra will be slower because it has less displacement. Grow up.

Anyway, have fun with your DSM and ignore senior "closeminded"

Bah, 45G... I laugh in your face. You cant hang with my W-16 quad 679er G turbo with Intercooler body pannels. Its pretty schweet.
