hi, im new and i know very little about eclipse's what are you swamping when you do a 6 bolt swamp? a diff motor? if so what are the pros to doing this? is it very expensive? thanks anyhelp is appreciated.
 
the 6 bolt engine is from a '90- early '92 Turbo DSM's. Basically the reason for the '6 bolt swap' is because the 7 bolt motor has a chance of crankwalking. To put it simple, crankwalk would need a full bottom end rebuild to fix, not cheap stuff. The 7 bolt is out of late '92-'99 turbos with the 4G63 engine.

So if a 2G owner wants to avoid crankwalk, the best chance of this is to do a 6 bolt swap.

People think that it went up to 94 because very few 1g's crankwalk. I never really udnerstood why the 92-94 1g's dont really walk even though they are 7 bolt.

My PERSONAL opinion on this is is that there is nothing wrong with the 7-bolt motor. I was reading a lot about crankwalk before I bought my car, and I read rumors that Mitsu got a bad batch of parts. They simply used these parts while making the 2g eclipses. To me, this explains why you almost never hear of a 1g or EVO walking. If someone can tell me otherwise, thats great! But until then, this is what I am believing!

I heard the same thing and I believe that also. I think that they used a part that was just a little bit off and it screws everything up...
 
Its all about the oil squirters. The block of the evo (yes its a 7 bolt) addresses the oil squirter issue.

Its bad engineering not a bad batch of parts.

True. The main reason why I quoted you is so that you might need to adjust your sig to 14 psi instead of 114 psi. I'm sure this is probably on purpose because it was in bold... I'm going to bed.
 
A lot of people also convert to the 6-bolt setup because of its strength. its uses a beefier crank and rods, which is always good in stress situations. the 7-bolt was designed to have less reciprocating mass, which is good for revving but makes it slightly weaker as well.

Actually it use to say "13-14psi" but then I meant to change it to 14psi but I guess I missed one of the one's. It's in bold just to show the boost. Thanks, man I feel dumb! :D
 
I have a buddy that has his 93 7-bolt walk on him, so no 7-bolt is free of it. I've even heard that 6-bolts "can" do it, it just happens very rarely. I convered to the 6-bolt block in my car and have been very happy with things so far. By the way if you want to tell what you have look at your flywheel, if there are 6-bolts it's a 6-bolt, and likewise for the 7.
