I have a 1g car with a 2g ported exhaust manifold, k&n intake, ACT 2100 clutch and manual boost controller. My turbo died on me and I need a replacement ASAP, so I chose a Big 16G ported turbo. I know that this turbo is not exactly a good choice for a pretty much stock car... I had planned on modding my car and then getting a bigger turbo, but I need my car running as soon as possible. Obviously, I'll be boosting very low, at like 11-12 psi. My question is, what do I do immediately next to ensure that my car can handle some more boost from this turbo, exhaust system work or fuel system mods?

well id just keep the boost low, and start doing exhaust work. get a turboback, then goto fuel system.

i was thinking about a rewire, how beneficial would that be? because i might just be better off buying a new one, what do you think? can a rewired stock fuel pump support quite a few mods on a big 16g turbo car?

Fuel first. Don't get greedy on the stock fuel system... getting greedy is the way you blow shit up. If you do exhaust first, it can get hard to control your boost level and keep it down where the stock fuel system has you covered.

u wont blow ANYTHING with stock fuel on a b16g if u dont run stupid boost, having the fuel to up the boost will do NO GOOD with stock exhaust, it just makes no sense. keep the boost LOW, rewire pump if u want, do at LEAST a catback, then worry about fuel.

If you put a good 3" turbo-back system on there, you run the risk of creeping to a point where you don't have enough fuel, depending on what you've got done in the gate/o2 area.

Where I'm coming from is building things the safe way. It never hurt anybody to upgrade the fuel system first, then make it fast second. You eventually need the fuel mods anyway, so get that laid out first so you don't get in a situation where you need more fuel than you have. Maybe I'm wacko, but that's how I like to do things.

yeah dude if yr gettin a big 16g at least keep it down to 10, upgrade to like a 190 walbro, then when you get the cash you might as well buy turboback plus afc and 550 injectors all at the same time, just to be safe. boost creep is a real bitch and if you got a b16g pushin 10, it'll creep like 12-13 and thats probably too much cfm on 450s plus yr old fuel pump. if anything rewire it first and if you know anyone w/ a datalogger, check out how yr injector duty cycle is so you can see if they're maxed out

All a turboback exhaust is going to do is cause him to spool up quicker, and creep higher, making it harder to keep boost levels low. I'm with the above as well, he needs to get a fuel pump, then some injectors and an AFC or something.

well i dont personally think he should have creep problems unless hes got a heavy foot. i daily drive, and if i ever boost above 4psi its alot.

Haha.... how can you possibly keep it under 4 lbs at all times. I have a buddy who has a 1G with a 3" Buschur turbo back, and even if your barely on it that hog spools the turbo like CRAZY, and he's got a fairly healthy amount of spike. Definitely just do your fuel system. Get the Walbro 255LPH and call it a day.

i can daily drive and not ONCE hit boost, u just dont go above 23% throttle.. i live in the city, i dont have to slam on it to get anywhere.
