I've got the thermal cat-back on my 2g and am looking for a new downpipe. for those of you who don't know, the thermal bolts up directly to the stock cat without any adapters. I saw this downpipe on the extreme psi website and thought it was a very good price.

Here are the details-

Complete 3 inch downpipe which decreases to 2.5 inch so that it can directly bolt onto your stock or aftermarket exhaust system.

THIS DOWNPIPE COMES WITH A CAT-REPLACEMENT AND WILL BOLT ON DIRECTLY ON YOUR STOCK O2 HOUSING TO YOUR STOCK OR AFTERMARKET CATBACK EXHAUST SYSTEM!

HIGH QUALITY MANDREL BENDING ROBOTIC TIG WELDING

COMES WITH ALL GASKETS AND BOLTS NEEDED FOR A DIRECT BOLT ON.

Is it a bad thing that this downpipe necks down to 2.5" to bolt up to the exhaust? I would rather just have things bolt up and not have to weld. Since this dp eliminates the cat will a check engine light come on? I am planning on upgrading to a fpbig28 within the next year or so. will this dp be sufficient?

2.5" in the beginning is fine because it will help keep the exhaust gas velocity up and also reduce boost creep. Some cars get a CEL w/o a cat, and some don't. That downpipe doesn't look like it replaces the cat, it looks like it goes up to the cat, but that is just a guess.

Starting at 2.5 isnt the problem. You see where it would bolt to the cat? It necks down again to 2.5. Thats where the problem is. Your exhaust is going to flow through: 2.5 inches - - 3 inches - - 2.5 inches - - then through your thermal. I'd look for a *full* 3 inch dp. Just my opinion..

ok...so i should get a full 3" downpipe....which one do you guys recommend? i don't want to spend a lot of cash

You'll need to the part on the Thermal where it necks down to 2.5" to bolt up to the cat and then have a 3" flange welded on

ok, let me get this straight...if i buy the apex'i n1 or gt dp it will bolt directly up to the stock o2 housing which is 2.5". it will then be 3" the rest of the way back and i will need to get a 3" flange welded onto my thermal in order to bolt up to the apex'i dp?

thanks for the help guys
