According to the owner's manual, if the outside temperature doesn't fall below 32F you should use 20W40. Make sure you guys are using the right motor oil! Oil is very important for turbos.

I haven't seen this weight on any store shelf for a long time. It is probably still available from an oil warehouse. Even at the warehouse you might have to order it.

My OWNERS manual says 5W-30 for temps -10 and lower and 10W30 for every thing else.
Wouldn't using the thicker motor oil be very harsh on the engine at start up. With the thicker oil it could take awhile after start up to coat everything. IMO that would be bad.
I myself use Mobil 1 synthetic.

I actually have to change my oil tomorrow, so I checked the owners manual, and for the turbo models it does say 20/40 for over 32*, 5/30 for 60* and lower (which I have in my car right now:( :slam: ), and 10/30 is good for mostly everything else.

So I checked at Kragen and there is no 20/40 at all, even with the regular oils. I just got so good old 10/30.

IMO in the summer time 10w40 should be used and maybe a mix of 20w50 if its really hot.
When the oil gets thin you will lose pressure which isn't good especially for are crank walk prone cars.
5w30 is break in oil but to each their own...

The owner's manual is telling you something few people know about motor oil........20W-40 oil produces less combustion chamber deposits than 10W-40 does when burned. Apparently this is important in the turbo engine; notice this oil is only listed for the turbo.

Maybe the engineers also knew that the valve seals would eventually wear out causing the engine to start sucking oil like mine is doing right now. Anyway, all you 5W-30 synthetic users, this engine is made to run on this weight of oil in hot weather. Sorry, you won't find it in any store these days.

weird, i can find 20-40 anywhere just about. what bout straight 40W? my father (has lot of machanical degrees) says i should use the Valvoline HPO 40W in mine. i kinda agree bout the 20-40. i used straight 50 in my beretta cuase i i revved it alot. it performed better with the 50W then it did with a lighter weight. My Eclipse hasnt ran log enough to need to change the oil  , but i had to drain the oil so i wanna know what the best oil i should use.

For comparison, the Evo 8 calls for the exact same oil viscosity. 20W40 for temps above 32F and 10W30 for temps above -10F. Temps below -10F are not specified.

I can find 20w-40 everywhere, even gas stations carry it here. I've always used the weight, even in the cold ass mid west winters and it's never caused me any problems. I have found that my car seems to eat up a lot of Castrol Syntec. I'm always having to refill it, but with Mobile 1 I can go almost the full 3,000 mi. without it burning a drop. And this is at 183,000 miles on the clock.

Interestingly, Corkey Bell (the author of "Maximum Boost") says that you should use straight weight oils. He says that additives that allow multiviscosity also cause coking. Even so, I use Mobile 1 15W-50.

That Ferrari oil is something like $60 a quart. Ridiculous. What makes that oil so special anyway?
Where can you buy that oil? I know Castrol makes one too, called Formula RS 10W-60 or something. I heard you can buy it at Lamborghini dealerships.
