Just wanted to post this, because it's not often that I hear of a DSM losing, and the victor in this case was a pretty special MR2. Not your typical motor swap in a Honda type thing.
Cars:
94 Eclipse GS
swapped 6 bolt
16G
starion FMIC
running 14psi
93 MR2
horrible suspension and brakes
gen IV 3SGTE engine (2.0L, CT26 turbo)
After just finishing up a pretty difficult swap on my buddy's MR2 we decided to go for a drive. The car was relatively untuned, though we were keeping our eyes on the boost level, nothing else was really monitored.
Another friend decided to join us with his FWD 1G that is currently using my old 16G turbo and a 'custom' starion fmic. It's got more stuff done, like a full body kit, cat back, and intake, but that's the important part at least. He thought the car was having ignition problems, but I think it's just that the increased boost from the 16G is blowing out his spark in the upper RPM's, since he couldn't tell me which spark plugs he was using or what they were gapped at.
Anyways.... on the highway from a 50mph roll the MR2 pulled out a little on the DSM consistently.
Now granted, the DSM was having a little problem with spark, but the MR2 wasn't even tuned _at_all_, and I spent a decent amount of time in the DSM getting things as much in check as I could with the stock 450's, low boost on a 16G, no AFPR, and an SAFC.
I was pretty surprised by the results to tell you guys the truth. I thought the DSM would pull easily, but I guess FWD's aren't the highway kings I thought they would be. Honestly, if both of these cars were tuned properly (read, if I owned them both) I think the MR2 would still have won.
I'll be attending the dyno tomorrow with the FWD, so I'll have some hard numbers for you guys if you're interested.
