I got a quick question bout my brakes, I have a 90AWD and my brake rotors keep on warpin... I mean this is with driving it nice... I'm wonderin if the hubs were warp would this cause rotor warpage.. to it seems like it would but I guess I'm just asking if this is a common problem. the wheels being torqued correctly and such. etc.......... I'm thankful for any help

I was thinking bout getting the whole assembly from my buddy with a 93 parts car..like knuckle and all....so they didn't warp after you upgraded?....what did you use.......just the calipers, rotors, mounting brackets.?

btw torqued every time with my trusy MAC torque wrench ;)

thanks for the info

Keep warping? Mine warped from street driving bc I drive hard. "small" 1g brakes were obviously a danger bc DSM upgraded them in 93 but not enough people died so they didnt do a recall. When you redo any small 1g brakes you have to buy new rotors un cut. cutting them smooth takes out to much metal and makes them warp faster.

What are your lug nuts torqued to? Uneven or excessive lug nut torquing will cause your rotors to warp.

I use 80 ft-lb on mine. Anything over 90 is questionable.

After market pads?????

I used to have the same problem. I stopped using the cheap liftime brake pads from Auto Zone Pep Boys etc, and went back to the stock ones from satan and my warping went away. My mechanic said stock ones are best because they are not hard as a rock like the cheap "Lifetime" ones are. I know you can buy real good pads but not sure if they work well on stock rotors. I bought two rotors from Auto Zone for 20 each and stock pads from satan and have not had a single problem.

I think my left rotor has warped because of wobbling when I apply the brakes.

Kinda feels like surging, or part of the brake grabs, then fades, then grabs again.

Now it has started to feel like that when I am not braking. I noticed it on the highway today. Is that what a warped rotor feels like? Never had one before this.

Also does anyone know the part number for the two bolts that hold the bracket onto the control arm. I believe they were either 14MM or 17MM bolts. Gotta get some new ones cause one snapped when I upgraded my brakes.

Thanks

I run small brakes with Wagner premium organic pads. I install my wheels with an air wrench, can lock all four wheels, never experience fade and have never warped a rotor. I'd suggest avoiding both cheap and high performance pads if wanting to avoid warped rotors.

Done already, the rotors have warped after upgrading
Something i noticed when i put mine on is that there was a gap between the rotor and wheel hub. it was only about an 1/8 inch wide so i didn'nt think anything of it, but after i got everything back together i noticed the rotor was rubbing against the brake pads at some area and not others on the brake pad, telling me the rotor mounted crooked (this was after i had torqued the wheel down.) I took off everything again and noticed that behind the rotors had a nice build up of rust built up from over the years. i took a dremel and about a half hour later the rotors mounted nice and flush against the wheel hub. I recommend doing this to both sides, it most likey the reason why your warping rotors.

I think as long sa you torque the wheel down appropriately and take all the necessary measures and get a high quality rotor like powerslot or brembo which are designed to deal with high heat at times will last quite a while I am sure. I will let you guys know how my brembo crossdrilled/slotted and axxiss metal master pads turn out, I am excited cause I know it will be a big improvement over my warped rotors now. Just doing the fronts cause the rears are fine for now.

Did you get yours from DSMparts.com? If so, drop me a PM, I have a few questions to ask you.

Thanks
