So. I've seen postings and ads for tires and wheels for various DSM's. Mine is a 97 Eclipse RS and I would like to upgrade from the standard bycicle tires and wheels that came with the car to a wider profile tire and wheel. Without having to make any mods to this car's suspension, my question is: What's the biggest size wheel and tire I can install.
Thanks fellow DSM'ers.

talking tire and wheel size

Im talking about both. In other words, how wide a tire can I use and what's the largest size wheel; both in width and inches in size that can be installed on this car without having to make any modifications to the suspension system.
Thanks.

Depends on the wheel and tire. I know the turbos can fit a 16x8.5 with 245 series tire and the right offset without any mods. Don't think you can fit a 8.5" wheel and 245 series tire if it's an 18" wheel. And one brand 245 might be wider than another brand of 245.

A good standard "big" wheel size is 18x7.5 with a 225/40 tire. All this applies to a turbo 2G DSM. Not sure if the non-turbos are the same.

thanks GS-T

You have given me at least a baromoter that I can use as a guide. Im hoping other DSM'ers who've MOD their RS or other models besides the turbo's will post with their experience on upgrading to larger size treads.

I know there's a few out there with 19's and 20's, not sure of tire sizes though.. anything bigger than 18's is rediculous, cause when the car is lowered the rims look bigger than they are.. fi you don't lower it you look liek a matchbox toy car.. anyway, all the suspension is the same in fwd 2g's
