Recently after my tranny install i got a CEL. I used my chiltons and figured i could use a ohms meter to read the code. Well this is what I get beep beep beeeep beeeep beep beeeep beeeep beep beeeep beeeep or __ __ ____ ____ __ ____ ____ __ ____ ____ __ ____ ____

After looking through the chiltons manual; I am led to believe its the coolant temp sensor but am unsure, If someone can help me out please let me know thanks Mike

Shouldnt trigger a cel. I unplugged mine once to see if it caused a cel and it never did anything different on my car.

A sign of that sensor failing is high idle and running rich

It definately causes a CEL on 1Gs. I was getting an off and on CEL for a while. Once I got my logger setup I found out it was the coolent temp sensor. Picked one up out of a junkyard and never got the CEL again.

So I wonder why my car did not throw a CEL when I let it stay disconnected.

CEL = Check Engine Light

Does the CE bulb illuminate when the car is started. The bulb could be out.

Anyway, that code in the first post looks like the coolant sensor to me. Check the resistance across the coolant sensor terminals and see how well it matches the reference values given in the manual.

Problem Solved

After buying a new Coolant Temp Sensor from Autozone for $27 plugged it in and started her up, same thing still acting crappy. So I looked at the plug very closely, then the green wire broke off from the plug and the hole plug connector pulled out of the harness OMFG. Opened up the harness yellow wire was cut about 8 inches back so I soldered on 2 new wires and new clips and hooked it all up. Started her up runs perfect. Other than the idle being high, started up and stuck on 1500 then turned the idle screw all the way in and its stuck at 1000, so whenever i get back to work monday ima take her for a spin and get that adjusted right. Also on a side note my A/F gauge doesnt seem to being showing any bars at idle anymore no fluctuation nothing. I guess I'll look into that when I am driving it again monday.

I should stress this more.

When you mess with the idle you should ground the computer. If not you can "overwork" the IAC and fry it.

your a/f wont cycle until operating temp usually. id reset ur ecu. then get car full warmed up to operating temp, and just adjust the biss to desired idle speed. ive never grounded, havent seen ill effects from it yet so i dont bother.

So what does happen when the ISC reaches the end of its travel and still can't control idle? Does the ECU continue to send open or close commands that the ISC can't respond to or does the ECU know that the end of travel is reached and give up? Since the manual instructs the owner to center the ISC I suspect the ECU is not that smart and continues to send commands.
