I am taking out my transaxle and am up to the point of removing the transfer case. On DSM.org it says "loosen the 5 bolts holding the transfer case and pull it away from the axle shaft", but it does not say take it out. The book instructs to take it out, but to be careful of the driveshaft seal. I think I am going to just take it all out. But then would that void the warranty on the transfer case that Chrysler rebuilt because of the recall? What have other people done?

what exactly are you doing? clutch?
you can loosen those 5 bolts, then pull the transfer case from the tranny and just lay it on the ground. no need to unhook the driveshaft. but yes you have to slide the transfer case off of the tranny to pull the tranny.

Doesn't the driveshaft just slide off the case if I pull on it?
I am exploring a sound that won't stop that is coming from the tranny. While I am there I am getting a new clutch.

i don't think so. atleast i didn't try that when i did my clutch. it might though. it's really easy to pull the transfer case off the tranny. loosen the bolts and slide the transfer case towards the drivers side, lay it on the ground. anyways unless you are a body builder then any amount of weight you can get off that awd tranny will help a great deal when you go to drop it from the engine.
