I recently jumped on the great deal somebody pointed out about the ED DP. I picked one up for $169. Shipping was pretty quick, less than a week, and the customer service was top notch. All my questions were answered quickly. As far as the shipping procedures, well, they leave a bit to be desired. The pipe came in a box. Period, no packing materials whatsoever. The box wasn't even a real good fit. The DP comes with two gaskets (nice ones) but they were held on by tape and when I opened the box, they were laying on the bottom. Not too big a deal, but the box had a big gash in it that they could have easily slipped out of. The DP finish was pretty good as well. It is T304 stainlessmand the welds, while not museum quality, are suitable for something you'll never see... There was a bit of slag on the pipe from the welding process, but 2 minutes with fine steel wool took care of that. The tape residue from where they attached the gaskets came off with a bit of Nevr Dull, and overall, it is a good looking piece of pipe. It almost looks too big... 2.5" from the turbo to the flex section, then it enlarges to 3", and then necks down a tad to 2.5" again to fit the stock catback. I plan on installing it when I go to Texas next week, so I'll keep you all posted about power/sound/performance...

I have this same downpipe and i installed mine. Everything he said was true the pipe is good fits "almost" perfect. Just takes a little muscle to get it in the right posistion. The gaskets are really nice but mine i had to make the holes just a tad bigger with a dremel to get it to fit right. Thats about it.. also on there site it said "stop boost creep" bahh i have hella boost creep after the install of the DP, and i have a ported o2 and 34mm wg flapper so time to hog out my o2 even more. But it is a good piece for the price and i would buy it again.

Alright, here is the remainder of the review. I had the pipe installed last week for $30 at a local exhaust shop. There were no major problems with the install, but there are a few things I thought I should mention... The gaskets supplied by Exhaust Depot were the incorrect size. They were way too big. Also, there is no place to attach the factory ground strap that went right before the cat. After install, I fired up the car, and noticed a thump... The heat shield was too close to the pipe, and upon start up, the pipe jumps a bit and hit the shield. Simple fix, we put it back on the lift and bent the shield a bit. No more thump. Of course, the new pipe threw the CEL. I stopped by Forced Performance since I was in the area, and they told me that the two O2 sensors need to see a voltage drop, and having no cat doesn't provide the drop. Not a huge deal, as they told me that there is a mod you can do to the second O2 sensor to fool it into thinking there is a cat. I'll get to that eventually. In all, the install was pretty straight forward, and about what I expected for a $160 pipe. Performance gains were minimal according to the butt dyno. There seems to be a bit more pull at the top end, but lag has increased very slightly. There was no sound increase or change, but I still have the stock cat-back. I wasn't too happy overall, as I expected the claimed 15-20 hp, but I'm assuming it is because of the stock cat-back. I guess I just need to splurge and get the cat-back... So there you have it, the completed review. Feel free to ask any questions... By the way, I haven't noticed any boost creep...

By the way, The crew at Forced Performance was pretty nice. They showed me around the shop, answered a bunch of my stupid questions, and even showed me the forgings for their new turbo coming out soon (!) VERY NICE... Good group of guys. Thanks.

Umm.. the downpipe removes the cat. Its going to throw a CEL b/c there is no cat and the rear o2 says that there is somthing wrong so the cel throws. Nothing to do with the ground strap.

how would you go about fooling the 02 into thinking the cat is still there. Cause I plan on getting this pipe for my 14b and future 16g eventually.

mac,
we 1st gens dont have 2nd 02 sensors. the cel is something else.

for the 2nd gen i think theres a way you can throw in a resistor to make the computer think theres a voltage drop across the phantom 02 sensor.
it doesnt use these values for fuel injection, just to make sure the cat is there and working so as long as it returns anything within spec it wont throw a cel. check vfaq. i know ive read it somewheres

I bought this DP about 7 months ago and am fairly pleased with it. At $169 for a T304 stainless DP, it's really the most bang for your buck. It's 2.5" from the O2 to the flex, and the flex itself back is full 3". Mated up to the Greddy SP cat-back, the car has a nice deep rumble to it. However, as someone else mentioned, I too was not very pleased with their packing procedures. When I received the box, the DP was sticking out one end and upon opening the box, there was no packing at all inside and the gaskets were also taped to the outside of the box. I installed the DP myself in about 45 min (most time spent getting the old one off). The car runs great and has yet to throw a CEL. Very weird how some do and some don't. Overall I would buy again.
