They're interchangable but they're not the same. The ohm specs are a little different. I've used a 2g ISC before and encountered no problems.

The 2G ISC (black plastic case) is an improvement over the old 1G (metal/tan plastic case). It has a higher ohm rating for the coils at around 40 ohms/coil. This means it requires less current from the ECU coil drivers, which means your ECU is in turn using less current to do the same work in operating the ISC.
