1g swap into a 2g

Well the 98 talon's clutch is toast. I was hoping it was good because the master was bad and the reason the car was abandoned. I am guessing the original owner thought the slave was bad instead of worn clutch, so he replaced it, never bleeding the system right because the master was gone. I just replaced master with the upgraded one from rtm racing as well as a full steel braided line, but to no avail the clutch is gone. So i have decided to pull my 1g engine out of the 92 and swap it into the 98. I just replaced the belts, flywheel and clutch on that one along with a bunch of other odds and ends. It will cost me almost as much in required parts for this 2g engine then it would be to swap it. This was something that was planned from the start anyway, just not this soon. I will keep the 2g engine so in the future i can place the head on the 1g block when I'm ready to build the engine how i want. For now she will run with what has been done to it for the winter. I would love to start a build thread but i do not qualify. Its hard to get your post count up when you find most of your answers anyway and contributing most times is pointless. i go back to work for 14 days then on my next 14 days off this has got to happen and be completed to be able to make it to work lol. i have done crazier things in less time. Wish me luck, any advice is welcomed. I have a friend who has completed one of these and is aiding me in the swap.

here are the two cars in question.

the only benefit to me is another 1500 in parts i already bought for the 6 bolt. The 6 bolt will also satisfy my build goal for bottom end. I was planning on in the future to swap the 7 bolt head onto the 6 bolt for higher compression. Was planning on buying the ecm link anyway so now its a matter of money and time. I could have this swap done on my next set off while prepping the 2g while on days on. Im guessing around 1g canadian for the swap or 1500 for another fly wheel, clutch and full service. Also this would almost guarantee to me no future crank walk that these 7 bolts are plagued with. As for time, well i love doing these things so there for it's priceless. This will give me a good chance to clean up engine bay and other small odds and ends. Everybody has their opinions and i respect yours but i feel its my cheapest solution.

I run a early 7 bolt in my car making 500whp and Crankwalk is not something I even worry about.

A lot of people don't even know that the Red Demon From Boostin Performance runs a 7 bolt block as well. You can do everything with the 7 bolt that a 6 bolt can and then some.

Advise: have the phone # to a rental company just in case! Or offer some beer to a friend to let you use there car IF need be. Or if works not to far away, consider buying a scooter? Reguardless I would be careful putting yourself in a situation where you may not have reliable transportation to work.

Great advice. I have a backup car, always do. Would rather run this instead and I have pulled off crazier things. Also don't want to run the miles up on my good ride. This is just my hobby for the most part. I have been researching this like crazy and found a great tech article for everything thats needed. My good friend has been building and tuning his for awile so there he will aid greatly. Gonna run the 92 for this rotation of work. I will have the 98 motor and trans pulled out before I go back. I'll post a build thread but I'll wait till I have a good amount of actual info to post so it don't get taken down. Trying to go around when I got time to post in other threads to get my count up.

Oh, well so long as you have transportation to work, then hell get on it. But like the guy above is saying, it's really been blown up over the years due to the internet. (The crank walk issue). How many miles are on the 7 bolt? Most agree if the engine hasn't walked by 90,000 miles, it's not going to. Might be easier to just swap the parts from the 6 bolt over that you want on the 2g?

That was the plan, to swap any needed parts from the 1g over to the 2g. Far as i know my new kevlar belts would have worked along with plugs, wires, fuel filter (they had a 2g filter on my 1g) but from my reading my new fadenza flywheel and act clutch would not, flywheel for sure won't. The 2g has about 145,958 mi's on it with no history (car abandoned) so not sure if it had been repaired once before (crank walk). I did do a vin search on the car and found out everywhere it had been registered so may be able to call around and find out. decisions decisions decisions lol. So many unknown variables and so many opinions lol.

My only question is where are you coming up with 1500 for a clutch and flywheel for the 7 bolt? No way it should cost that much.

I would agree with other posts and probably just repair the 7 bolt but it seems your really set on doing the swap.

The 1500 cdn was what i spent on the 1g with fidenza fly wheel, act clutch, filters, plugs, wires and kevlar belts

This was my original intention soon as i acquired this 2g. I have a trusted friend who has been helping me convert from off road to street and he says its my best option with everything i have, he has a 2g with a 1g thats built. Not that I'm saying you guys can't be trusted, what you are saying is everything i have read about. I'm 50/50 on what to believe so I'm just going with what i know. I know the 6 bolt is strong, The 7 bolt is unknown so the risk factor is higher of the two engines. I sold a couple of my beater race cars to cover the cost of supporting equipment and parts. I absolutely love building things and this swap is right up my ally, ill get to know the cars real good, make some changes etc etc. I don't plan to touch the bottom end with this build so the 1g would be better suited as stock parts will hold my power better then the 2g (again this is debatable). With this ecm link right off the hop, it will help me learn as i upgrade and build. I plan to keep the 7 bolt, possibly build a full race set up. Swap out and go race it. reliable 6 bolt, full race 7 bolt. Below is what i built in 30 days as a challenge from a sponsor a few years back. 545 stroker Suzuki samurai. i built the full chassis myself and suspension, but never fully finished it when family came along.

well i got it complete with some time to spare for some tuning. Ended up freshening the engine up with a re-hone, rings, rod bearings and a good head cleaning. Changed all seals throughout engine and overall the project went well. Having a great time with my ecmlink and how easy it is to work with.
