1Gb To 1Ga Front End Conversion

Hey guys!! I have some questions. I absoutly LOVE the 1ga front end. Not the front bumper, its the pop-up lights, and the slick low corner lights. They look so bad ass. I really think that is the best the 1G's have ever looked. I know this has probably never been posted before and is just crazy, but what exactly would it take to install oem 1Ga Pop-up lights, and to convert my stock headlights to the regular plastic corner lights?? Basically keep my same from bumper, but have the same 1Ga Light set-up? My dad works at a metal heating shop, so cutting slits in the hood wouldnt be hard at all.

Thanks everyone... Just another idea of mine

I would love to complete this and post pics and maybe a how to: :p

I think youd need the front bumper and grille assembly off a 1ga for the lights to fit right. Also the fenders. And hood. I agree that the 1ga looks better, but its a lot of parts to buy. The work should be easy, but youd need the motors, wiring them up might be a PITA but I'm sure someone here knows which wires to splice. Get a 1ga parts car and start swapping. Far easier than trying to half ass it by cutting your shyt up.

To think that I own a 1ga and Im actually a fan of the clean 1gb turbo look....The talons tho, the rear end is pretty sick...

1ga - 1gb is possible, but Ive only seen that done for the rear bumper assembly...Front bumper 1gb-1ga...Jeez, I would let it go right now

you do not have the nuts welded to the frame that hold the pop up assembly in. Trust me, I've redone my headlights (converted to camaro headlights) and looked at my friends 1gb headlight assembly. If you want to do a lot of drilling and get the right bolts/nuts for it, be my guest, but it would be annoying to line everything up. Everything else is a bolt on affair, although you will need: the 1ga front bumper, 1ga fenders, 1ga hood, 1ga pop up assembly, 1ga pop up covers, 1ga turn signal housings, 1ga corner turn signal housings (not the same thing), and a 1ga center peice. All in all, the color probably wont match, it will be a long annoying install, and you will be out a lot of cash, all so that you could add 30-40 lbs to your front end (the pop up assembly is very heavy.)

I also completely forgot to mention that you would have to mount the motor and make sure you have room for that. I changed to the camaro headlights so I would have a lot of room and a lighter front end, since those are the farthest things from the front axel except the intercooler and the radiator.

it's not as hard as you make it sound, cmon. and he wouldn't be out that much cash if he knew somebody that's had a few 1ga parts cars and has everything listed except for maybe the center grill. only problem would be shipping.

Probably easier to buy a 1GA and swap all of your 1GB stuff to it that you want.

much cheaper to go the other way around....you'll need the popups, motors, rods, hood, fenders, lights, bumper, and grill assembly.

Hmmm...I wonder what a 1gb front bumper would look like with pop ups...1ga - 1gb convert, but keep the pop ups and cut the hood to make it work....

Might be kinda ugly....

Dont worry, I have pop up love, otherwise I would've waited for a 1gb, instead of buying 2 1ga's

I love the whole 1Ga look, but I hate pop-ups.
Every 1Ga I had I disabled the pop-up motors and adjusted the headlights to shine properly through the lens covers.
On my 91 TSi I did away with the entire pop-up assembly, built brackets and installed fog lamp projectors with 100W PIAA bulbs...they are so bright I have no use for high beams ;)

I believe you can put a 1Gb bumper on a 1Ga if you cut the grill section off and use the 1Ga grill. You will need the fenders to use the 1Ga corner lenses. The biggest project is modifying the core support to hold the front lenses. Instead of pop-ups, I would hack up a set of yellowed 1Gb headlights to fit behind the 1Ga lenses for a real clean look. The hood would still need to be chaged or modified.

I was honestly thinking about disabling my motors too...I thought about it, and with the fogs on and the headlights shining thru, I dont think I would need the pop ups...

Then again, I dont see Vettes complaining about pop ups...Its retro ;)

i already have a 1ga complete and i would like to do the conversion, shipping and parts prices do not effect me.

what are the biggest problems?

also, i read that you can eliminate the popups and just shine through the lenses?
thats great news.

more details please!

thanks

absolutely. I once let a friend drive my car home and I was behind him the whole time and absolutely loved the looks. Silver 1gb talon rear + 4" magnaflow tip + 225 tires make the car look sooo mean.

also the 1gb talon front is the most agressive IMO

I think I like the 1ga front end better too. Not the bumper, but the headlights are very sleek and nice looking, except when they pop up. I've thought about putting an eye brow on 1gb lights to make them look more sleek like 1ga's but I can't pull myself to do it, there's a part of me that wants to kick my own ass for even thinking about it.

well '93 eclipse, would you like to swap complete front ends? lol. As the matter of fact im planning to convert my 1Ga to a 1Gb soon. I dont dig the pop ups much,i like it when they are down, but when up its not as cool. Well how much would you sell me your complete front end,or would you like to trade ?

Getting the headlights themselves on is easy yes. But the wiring is more complex than you might think.

Your best bet would be to swap the entire interior and front light harness with your 91. Trying to hack the 90-91 headlight motors to be operated by the 92 harness would be a nightmare...
