2. gotta teach yer friend to get the other car in the video too =)... next time run on the left side so you can have your friend tape from her side.

 

What kind of times are you running with your current setup Cazzo? Your car looks good. Also, what DV camera do you have? One of the Sony's? I've been thinking of getting on myself.

 

Yeah your right, my g/f likes to film my s-afc more than the race hehe. The whole incident happened so quickly that she barely had time to get ready ,and she forgot I didnt want to see my interior but the M3. Oh well, it was a rare chance that I had the camera and an M3 wanted to race. Im happy I got just a small bit of it on tape.

I havent run my car for any solid times, so I cant really say with confidence. Ill say between high 12's to mid 13's. I do know that I am making at least 300 whp though

That was a nice video.
It looks like he wasn't really racing though. If he was a good driver and racing, you would have seen his tires smoking at that speed (looks like it was about 30-40) when he downshifted into 2nd. Anyway, that video was pretty good quality. Man, I need a nice digital camera

One question though, did you dynoed your car to come up with "at least 300 horses"?

actually M power, if he is a good driver he won't smoke his tires. tire smoke is cool and all, but wasted power.

 

Have you driven a new M3?

Well, if you downshift from 35-40, into 2nd gear in a new M3, it will be almost impossible to not to smoke tires. Unless you just slow down your car dramatically. At 35-40, if you downshift into 2nd, you will be smoking your tires a bit, but the car will launch like a rocket. Have you even driven a new M3? If you have driven a new M3, and raced it from 35-40mph properly, you wouldn't have said what you said.

Besides, at 35-40, you won't be stuck "burning your tires", like when you are at a stop sign. I thought skilled DSM drivers would know that?

 

Your car sounds damn good! The M sounded pretty good too but DAMN, when you nailed it and spooled, I wet myelf.

 

Actually you cant smoke the tires in an M3 in any gear. Thank your German engineers for ASC, because without it, most BMW drivers would be off the road.

I haven't dynoed my car so I said "at least 300whp" as a very conservative number based on what other people with similar mods have dynoed. It's closer to 350whp..=)

In the video, the guy didnt downshift to 2nd. When the video starts, I was slowing down to wait for him from the first run. He changed lanes from behind me, gunned it to pass me, and then I timed it so that he would be next to me when i started to get on it. This is why you see his nose peak in front of me for just a second before i began to pass him.

M-power: do you drive a dsm or just a slow M roadster? Not to bash your ride but, I leave M3's behind in any situation like vw beetles, especially the old 240hp american models. If you read my first post, you would see that my family owns one and its been raced plenty of times against my car. I raced a modified M3 a few years back when i was still running the stock turbo and only 16psi, it was pretty even back then, but now its not even worth my time.

I love turbo's...Add a turbo to your M roadster, then maybe you would have something to talk about on this board. Until then....enjoy the smell of my exhaust!!

The reason I come to this message board is because I used to own 6 speed Dodge Stealth Twin Turbo. Ever since then, I like Mitshu performance cars.
If you know anything about BMW M series, you will know that M Roadster is faster than any stock E36 M3. I register 5.1 to 60 and 13.7 to 1/4 mile, in completely stock form. What did your eclipse register in stock? ; )
If you put all the mod in your car and made it go faster, it's cool, man. I can respect that. I just pointed out that, a good driver in a new M3 should have downshifted. That doesn't mean he could have beat you though.
Oh, on a sid note, for goodness's sake man, no skilled drivers drive their M cars with "ASC" or "DSC" switch on. ha ha ha, give me a break!!!
I have respect for DSM cars, but you guys certainly do not seem to know anything about M cars other than, "someone else used to own it and I drove it sometimes"...

 

Oh, I wanted a turbo, I would have kept my Twin Turbo. If I wanted to go fast, I would have bought a used Supra which is about 10-15k less than my car in the market. Fast DSMs are cool, cause they weren't meant to be "fast sports" cars, but you guys worked on them to go faster. However, it's sad to see that some of you think your eclipse is better any other cars. I have respect for fast cars and true car enthusiast. Obviously, some of you aren't.

First off, where I live, there arent very many BMW owners who street race. This guy was by no means a street racer...he was an older man playing around as I was. I don't even think most BMW owners know what ASC is or even where the button is.

One thing I'd like to correct you on..."If you know anything about BMW M series, you will know that M Roadster is faster than any stock E36 M3" this is completely untrue... last month I was driving the M3...you know the one i Dont know anything about and don't drive often....well i raced an M roadster....THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFRERENCE....It was completely even through all 4 gears...

Ok I'm going to end this now. No need to get upset. I posted that for viewing enjoyment and I did say that, it really WAS NOT a race, but just some fun quick runs I happened to catch on film. I also did not say that "I KILLED A 2001 M3", I merely said that I THINK it wouldve been a close race since i pulled him some. Peace!

However, I can not believe you make judgements on M cars if you didn't actually "own" one. Again, you certainly don't know about M cars. Go ask anyone who owns E36 M3 and M Roadster. How can a M Roadster be the same as E36 M3 when it's lighter by at least 250lb? Give me a break.

What distinguishes a ricer and a car enthusiast?
A Ricer: someone who thinks his car is the bomb and doesn't acknowlege other quality cars.
A Car enthusiast: someone who appreciates all performance cars and know about them. someone who doesn't go off and say "i have at least 300 horese" without actually putting his car on a dyno machine.
