Both. Better because it's cheaper. Worse because the mitsubishi wastegate acuators start bleeding off boost slightly early (before you hit full boost). Also if you are using a 1G or 2G o2 housing the outlet is only 2.5".

An external setup will cost a bit more, but it won't bleed off boost early, will allow you to run lower boost with more control (with the TRE flapper you can't go lower than 15psi), and if you dump it (don't route it into the downpipe) it sounds absolutely bad ass.

 

i have a evo 3 o2 housing...but i only have a 2.5 downpipe...is that goign to be good enough or do i need a 3".... i am trying to stay away from 3"dp cuz my complex hates me now already....also i think it said the WG actuator is adjustable or i might be thinking of the mutt turbo..they have internal WG with adjustable actuators...also TRE has their own Internal WG acuator i think...i am still trying to learn all of this...ya the external WG mod is rather expensive 450 and up..

A wastegate is a boost control device that bleeds off excess boost if it gets to high right? Just making sure, and is it better to dump it into the atmosphere or into the downpipe?

I am going with the Mutt level 5 with a ajustable wastgate agitator and a 40mm flaper. the only thing with routing the waistgate back into the o2/down pipe is you want it as far away from the exaust housing to reduce back pressure as much possable. unless you dump to the atmospher which does sound cool I would have gotten the 3" exaust, screw all the other people, speed is life and to live is to go fast.

Well if they hate you now don't go external dumped to atmosphere without muffling, unless you plan on not boosting within a 2 mile raidus (yes depending, it can be that loud, mine is).
The 2.5" dp isn't bad, but you will be losing power that you could have if you keep it.
It depends on what acuator you get. The normal mitsubishi acuator will bleed it off early.


A wastegate bleeds of extra exhaust gasses before they hit the turbine, so it's rpms are limited, and you don't get too much boost. External is better, but not necassary for most people. If you're just getting a 16G it's definetly not necassary.
