has anyone removed the outter weather stripping which lines the windows of a 2G? Just the main driver and passenger side. The 95 and 96 came with some crappy *** kind that peals. I'm upgrading to 99 rubber ones, and need some info on how to go about removing them. The Mitsu Manual CD is a bit vague.

Yes, they are different. If you notice your small rear corner window, the trim on that for all 2G's is a nice flexible and lasting rubber material, but the trim for the main driver and passenger side window, is just a hard corse plastic which chips and wears away down to the metal underneat. The 97-99 style use the same type of trim material as the side corner windows, thats what I am upgrading to, but I don't want to ruin the new paint job I have by taking them off incorrectly. If anyone has take these off before, your input will be greatly appreciated.

My window trim strips are cracked and look like crap as well. While I can offer no assistance in how to change them I do have a question. Would you happen to have the part number for the newer ones you mention? I have searched in vain since I got the car. Other than a little paint oxidation on the roof they are defiantly the most deteriorated part on the exterior. When I attempt to detail the car these old strips make it look bad. After you change yours a little how to wouldn't hurt either.

Thanks,
Frank

I would be very interested in the fix to this problem. The trim around my windows looks terrible especially in broad daylight. The front, as opposed to the nice still-new look of the rear, has turned into this rough pitted peeling mess that I would be more than willing to spend some time and money to fix.

I'm interested in hearing as well. The top trim of the passanger and driver windows were so bad on my 95, u could see more of the metal then u could with the plastic. So i went to the Dealership and bought a 99' top trim for just the driver side (to see how difficult it would be). I had to fiddle with the rubber seal that goes around it a bit, but once u manage to pull that off, its just screws that hold those on. So removing those aren't difficult at all. i'd like to replace the back ones and the bottom trims if anyone else has tried...

when I got my car painted...

As an alternative -
I used 3m 2" trim tape to fold the trim over the so that the paint would go under trim and not get overspray or tapelines. You can always paint those pieces - I am however unsure of how to remove them.

The first thing u have to remove is the rubber seal, and its not really glued/screwed onto anything, so it should come off by simply fiddling with it. And since your removing only the top trim of the window, you just have to remove that part of the rubber seal.
Once you have pulled it off, the Trim is held by a few screws.

Thats about it. The hardest part is pushing the seal back into place. The whole job took about 30 mins. Sorry i couldnt be of more help... if i had my damn digital cam...ah well.

Hey man, that pics is kinda crappy (no offense whatsoever) its just really hard to understand. How do you get to the screws if the trim is over the top of them? From the outside of the car all you can see is an upper and lower window trim. Do you just RIP it off with all your might? will I ruin the paint doing it?
