Was cruising with my buddy in his 2001 Cobra, and we caught a light with a 350z
The owner of the Z rolled down the window. Conversation went like this

350 Z driver, You’ll be my 3rd mustang I raced this week
US. Yeah, what was the outcome on the others?
350 Z owner. Didn’t have a problem with them after 2nd
Us…race any 99 and ups GTs
350 Z, yeah one from a 20 roll, it was a dead heat until about 100 then I pulled
350Z..I heard the Cobra’s are slower than that Gts, what do you have done
US..Just bought it this weekend, it’s bone stock.

The light turns green and we take off, my buddy in the Cobra gets excited and dumps the clutch. Spinning the shit out of the tires through first. A lot of wheel hope from the Cobra too.. The Z gets a clean launch and pulls ahead first and second by 2 cars. After we gain traction, we starting catching but it was too late..

After the race he said that he got a bad take off and could of beat us by more. I asked him for a rematch, but with me driving. He said lets do it, because he just found the sweet spot” in the clutch and was more confident in launching it. So we line up again, this time with my buddy flagging the race. I launched the car at around 3k; slightly riding the clutch for minimal wheel, spin. He did the same, because he’s car launched HARD. Through first gear, he had me by about half a car, but soon as I shifted to second, I pulled on him, and just keep pulling down the track. He had to be at least three cars behind, by the end of the quarter mile.

He wanted another rematch, so we did it again. This time I pulled on him from the line, so he just shut down. Then on the way home we did a second gear punch and we pulled on him then too

They need to seriously add a turbo charger on the 350z run it up to ... 450 hp

Cool, sounds about right to me.

The Z's I have seen run 13.8's around 101-102mph so that's quicker than a GT but slower than a Cobra.

Nice kill.
I ran a 13.8 in my 00 GT when it was stock. I think Z vs GT stang is a drivers race...

I think the 01 Cobra can pull a 13.6-13.5 @ 103 ish

That is what killed the Z to begin with. Overpriced technological wiz kid of a car...it was way off from the original concept of the z-Car.

I think the S13/14 became what the Z car USED to be. Cheap fun sports car.

I like the fact they are making a cheap (27K), fun NA vehicle out of it first in the spirit of the original Z-Car. You can always add boost later. :D

The big V6 should respond VERY well to some forced induction and bolt on mods. I'd be interested in seeing a supercharger from Stillen or JWT. My guess is 10psi and 425hp.

Based on my experience with Nissan's and the Vq engine, I'm willing to bet a set of headers, exhaust, CAI, and cams will put it solid in the 12's NA. My kind of fun club racer. :)

Isn't that a little much? I think 280 hp is more than enough for the price..With the supercharger, it's probably going to cost over 40k..Then they'll be heading down the same road, as the previous Z.They’ll have a tough time selling

Sweet race

Sweet race man. Good job on racing as well! As to the Z having a supercharger added and the price increasing? I have to agree with you Darkstang, they stopped selling the Supra, 3kgt, RX-7, and 300Z due to pricing in the US. I think that they will have a very hard time selling it with a supercharger and with the new supra coming out with the supposibly V-6 twinturbo.....that thing with be sky high as well. No wonder they never brought the Skyline out here. The price would be Crazy high!

When they do bring the supra out, it' going to have a V8:dunno:
Don't look for it to be a 400 plus horsepower monster, but more or less competition for the 350Z. Maybe an impressive N/A six cylinder that puts out 300-320 hp. Toyota prices themselves on technology. They also don't want to make the same mistake with the last gen supra.

The Skyline has been discontinued over in Japan right now, but when they do resurface they’re most likely going to have a V8. Unfortunately turbos are a thing of the past:mad:

I was watching (can't remember the name, but it was motor trend for trucks). they tested the frontier Supercharged and na, they said price as tested on the SC w/out leather was just slightly above the base 6 with leather package. If they can do the same with the Z I can see a factory SC in the future for a decent price. Why not?:dunno:

No no no no no...the Skyline is alive and well, in fact the 350Z shares a lot in common with it.

The AWD GT-R is on vacation but the Skyline is doing fine. The GT-R is in the planning stages and they are talking twin turbo or twin supercharged 3.5 liter V6, AWD and all the typical Skyline electronics and wizardry.

The good news? The Infinity G35 IS the Skyline, they already have the nameplate X35 ready to go. Figure it out. :D

Nahh. The EVO VIII's have turbos. So do the WRX's. Turbo's from the factory may not be around as much as they were a few years ago, but I wouldn't say they're a thing of the past. Of course when companies like BMW can design a production N/A inline 6 with 333 hp, who needs a turbo. j/k don't flame me. :D

Skyline has been discontined for 2003. I love the new G35
Do you have any links to this?

But look how many cars are not using them that once did. N/A seems to be where most manufactures are heading. Sure there are a few out there but not like their used to be

Not only do Mitsu and Subaru have turbos in the EVO and WRX, but even Mazda after buckling in and producing the RX-8 as NA, is slipping a Ball Bearing T-25 in the Protege. VW and Audi use Turboes extensively, Audi TT, Jetta, Passat and Golf all have Turbocharged trims I believe, hell even the beetle has one.

A Supra with a V-8 would just be plain wrong!!!!

Uhg..no it has not! lol

The *GT-R* has been discontinued but the new Skyline is already out in JP. The Skyline is just a generic people mover...what most people know as a "Skyline" is actually the GT-R. There are several models moving up to the GT-R. The GT, GT-S are two.

Here is the new G35 coupe that is to become the GT-R/X35:

Here's a website about the G35 CALL "G35/Skyline"
http://www.infinitig35.net/

Here is a link to an oooold (And somewhat hideous) GT-R mock up.

And here is a press release talking about the new GTR
http://www.freshalloy.com/site/cars/nissan/skyline/r35/concept/home_pr.shtml

You will have to go to Nissan Japan's website to see the new Skyline. www.nissan.co.jp It's in the model line up.

[Edit:] Here is a link directly to the JP model Skyline:

Look familiar? :D

I agree turbo's aren't as prevailant now as they were a few years ago in production cars, but as Ironpalm indicated there are still plenty of new production cars out there sporting stock turbos.

I love the look of the G35 coupe. I still don't understand, how that's going to be the new skyline though:dunno: :dunno:
I'll read each article extensivly in a minute, I'm about to leave work. also I heard that the g35 is going to be the luxury version of the Z

Whats with the twins the Nissan 350z and the Infinity (Forgot the model) .. To me the 300zx was a car which looked special and unique .. Yet they made a infinity look exactly the same ... Stupid in my opinion ..

The 350z is a great looking car , but nothing like when the 300z came out .. I mean even the old 1990 300z looks incredibly beautiful ...

350z with a supercharger :( lets just go back to the Twin turbo tradition

#23 ·
I remember the commercials for the 300zx when they came out. Those were incredible. The old japanese gentlemen who said absolutely nothing. The commercial that sticks out is the GI Joe that drives around in an RC car (300zx) and goes and grabs the barbie from the doll house across the home. She ditches the "Ken" tennis playing country club loser and gets with the camo wearing badass car driving joe :) (that needs to happen more in real life).

I think they made a mistake by putting infiniti G35. The only way they are going to be able to keep the japanese super cars over here is to keep their prices below that of a bmw 3 series, porsche boxster (YUCK), and audi's. That's a tought task. If they added more HP they would be competing against corvettes (*sighs*), m3's, and upper level audi's, s4.

Its a tough market.

It is the same car ala Talon/Eclipse/Laser. They just lengthened the wheel base a bit and made it a 2+2. It's the more "luxury" model and in a recent road test it beat the 350 out in the slalom thanks to the longer wheelbase.
