Well I dont know if this is a permanent fix or not, first heres a history of my laser.

I bought it from a guy who complained of no overdrive, I obviously from reading dsmtalk for 4 years knew it was the endclutch. So I bought it and replaced the endclutch with new bm trickshift fluid. The car would then go into O/D sometimes. If I give it a lil throttle it will go in, but anything over 20% throttle it will slip into neutral. Also the transmission ALWAYS slipped into third.

I've found that I can jsut put it into o/d manually and it works most of the time if im not giving it too much gas. So I just drive around in 3rd and pop it into o/d around 40. Not a biggy.

However the fact that thte tranny slipped going into 3rd annoyed me. So I went into autozone looking for a cheap fix. I bought the car for 800$ and didnt want to spend too much $.
I did some reading up on auto trannies and figured the valve body was a lil screwed up and was losing line pressure.

So after looking at all the different crap they had. I grabbed a bottle of Lucas Transmission fix. It states all over it that it iwll stop slipping and help increase line pressure. I put half the bottle in, and it totally turned the tranny around. The car shits great, It will put itself int o/d without slipping into neutral most of the time and never slips into 3rd. I dont know how long this will last, but for anyone with some gear slippage problems, i'd give this a shot for 7$.

Slipping from 2-3, did you try changing the transmission filter? Mine was doing the exact same thing, would not even go into D or R. And if it did go into D, it would slip in all gears if it got out of 1. Changed the Transmission Filter and now it works great. I believe that the wearing of the End clutches is the metal shavings that I found on the magnets and in the filter. The metal was almost like a powder. If your End Clutches have gone and been replaced, I would definately change the tranny filter.

Wait, you guys mean to tell me that there is a $7 bottle of additive that will unburn your clutches and band, put new rubber seals in the drums, install a busing kit and make it *as good as new*. WOW, imagine how much time I wasted over the years rebuilding transmissions. I feel so obsolete.

hey dont shit on the lucas oil tranny fix stuff. my wife has a 96 probe with the a/t. if any of you know anything about probes the a/t's are junk. the car only has like 80,000 miles and it needs a new tranny you could feel it sliping at a stop light bought a bottle of the lucas oil tranny fix put it in and its almost like new still slips alittle now and then but it was like a night and day difference. just my .02

Ok, here's the deal. There is nothing that you can put into a trans that will un-do damage to it. There are certain products that may act as a temporary band-aid to make it act better for a while, but the fact remains- if your clutches and bands are burnt it is irreversible. By the way, I do know something about Probes- I've been rebuilding automatic transmissions for 17 years now. I'm also thinking about changing my signature. Tell me what you think.

Fastest 1/4 mile time 8.87 - .562 R/T
Fastest R/T .501
Fastest MPH 150
Fastest 60ft 1.27

I think that's a sick 60', I'm lucky to hit 2.2
Was that in the Firebird?

Becareful...stopping the slip on a worn clutches/bands COULD be achieved by putting a less viscous i.e. thinner fluid in. Incidently, this might also increase the line pressure as the fluid is easier to pump. The end result......the tranny might work better for now, but you might end up with even more wear at the end of the day.

Hell, I think everyone knows that this type of thing is a band aid fix. When my 2nd gear began to grind in the 95 I didnt slap some fluid in it, I got it rebuilt right. The point being, for an 800$ car I just need to last me through winter, wheres the harm? A lot of people have n/t's a/t's as beaters and they may have the same problem so they are obviously not going to put money into them.

Is there a safe way to drain the tranny fluid without dropping the pan? I would like to try the lucus oil but my tranny fluid level is full to the top.
You should have a Drain Plug on the Pan, at least mine did.

Lucas stuff works. My car used to jolt going from gear to gear, and today I changed my fluid, put 1 bottle of lucas in there and then 2 bottles of mobil 1, so i put it in to gear checked levels all was fine. Drove soft and then drove harder and harder, no jolt. Then I tried to launch and it was the hardest launch I've ever felt since buying my car a few months ago.

Ya, those of us that have owned a/t dsm's for 3 1/2 years, or john who's been building tranys for 17 years don't have any idea what we're talking about. you whos owned your car for a few months knows what it's all about. FNG's...

How do you know it works? lets see what the efects of that stuff is a couple years down the road. At best its a bandaid that will cover up some of the problems in your trany, and give you a little more life out of a dead one. At worst it will ruin your trany. How would you feel it you posted on here with your results after a month saying it was great, then everybody poured it in, only to have it blow up a bunch of trannys six months down the line?
