Well, a friend of mine was in town for the holiday's and he's got a damn rich friend in Tuscaloosa that has way to many nice cars: Diablo, Viper GTS, C5 Vette, and a Mercedes. He happens to get to drive all of them and had the Viper with him while he's home for the holidays, lucky bastard if you ask me.

Well we're all headed to the movies and I happen to be in my car with him in the Viper and what do you know but we get stopped at a red light :D I'm not sure if he's game but I give him a couple of revs to let him know my intentions. Cross lights go yellow I hit the stutter box, not knowing the last time I set it it happens to be at 5500, WAY to high for the streets and the weather (maybe 35 degrees out). I slip the clutch to try to keep from spinning but to no avail so I just dump it and let 'em spin up to 7200 in 1st. This nets me 2-3 cars on him out of the hole. I shift to 2nd and I guess it was spinning a bit more than I thought cause the rpms dropped lower than normal but I stay on it. I wind out 2nd and go into 3rd. I hit 80 in 3rd and he's still about 2-3 cars back and not gaining any from what I can tell in my rear view so I tap the breaks to let him know it's over as we were in a 50mph zone.

Then I try to get him to line up from a roll knowing that with the traction problems I was having in 1st and 2nd he had to be having an even worse time hooking up. So we're cruising about 60mph with me sitting in 3rd waiting to go. Nothin's going so I jump it once and let off about 1-2 carlengths in front of him. I slow back to 55-ish to let him catch up and he punches it from behind. By the time I realize he's going he's at my door doing at least 15mph faster than I was going. I drop the hammer in 3rd just to see what happens. He puts about 2 carlengths on me before I run out the top of 3rd and he's not pulling much anymore. I'm about to go to 4th and I see him tap the breaks, then he gives me the flashers like that was a fair race. Oh well, he doesn't leave town till Thursday so I'm gonna see what I can do about getting another, more fair race.

I'm thinking a 40-120 dash should be interesting. I'd also like to go from a stop and see how long it takes him to catch me, or if he can before I hit 150mph  But that's kind of fast so we probably won't be doing that.

Hope ya'll enjoyed the story. Later,

Sweet

it was pretty freakn sweet... i'm really good friends with the guy and he really didn't like the fact that #1. a plymoth just beat him and kept up with him. #2. it cost way less than half the viper's price tag. #3. It has less than half the cyclinders.
I was behind them for the first race from a stop, and it was sweet. The rears of both cars squated like mad, one reason i knew the viper had gotten on it.

i hope they can line it up agian, but i just about know for sure that the guy won't, just because he knows what the outcome will be. If jerry doesn't out right beat him, he will give him a damn good run. Even when he tryed a fly by, jerry got back on it and the viper stopped pulling from him very sudden. It was very impressive to say the least.

Wow!!

LaserAWD,

Great Kill!! That must be one heck of a ride you got there men!! Hanging or pulling on a Viper GTS on a roll is no easy feat for an AWD.

I saw a Red GTS once this summer that was being driven by a Blonde in the 30s.....too bad my turbo was stock....I did try to get her to unleash the beast but she did'nt even bother....I would'nt have minded getting spanked ;).

I noticed you have a stutter box so I am assuming the Laser has some serious mods.......

Want to share the mods you have on the car?

My major mods are Buschur 20G, VPC w/ new SAFC, 550's, Buschur FMIC and a TT Supra fuel pump. To see a complete list of everything I've done to the car check out out My ride It's got the mods listed by sections. Hope ya'll enjoy and thanks for the compliments.

The times on that page were with the old Stage 4 Frank. I haven't gotten to go to the track with the 20G yet. I'm running around town at 18-19psi on pump gas. I'm curious to see what it's like on race gas and 25psi

wow!!

11.98 at 113.8? I have managed a 113.70 MPH trapspeed.....the best E/T is 12.284. I am planning on 235/45s as well....and I remember seeing your site before.......I recall seeing some of the pictures that are there before.....are you on speedextremities too? I am Krish2IT out there as well.

Does the BR 20G spool much faster than the frank 4?

Krish.

Yes, the 20G spools faster than the Stage 4 Frank. The frank took til about 4000rpms to be fully spooled while the 20G is fully spooled by 3500-3600. Both of those are on ~19psi.

I have been on Speedextremities a couple of times. My name over there is LaserAWD as well.

As for the 113.8 on an 11.9 run, what can I say but speed shifting rocks!!! Leave the gas on the floor and bang through the gears. Or as the AT DSM'rs like to say, "Never lift to shift"

Take it easy,

I'd still kill to have a Viper though. :D
So would I  He gave me a ride in it later that night and the only phrase that comes to mind is Got Torque?. Third gear in that car pulls from 2200 to redline like mad, it's insane. And the factory seats in it, very nice. I hope the Corbeau A4's feel as nice as those viper factory seats do. But my car is still faster than that viper :D

HEHEH!

Nice kill. :) Jerry with your car what else can you expect?

Yeah, but that would definatly be interesting. Running from a Stop light and having a top end run. I wonder how long and at what speed the Viper would catch up.

My guess it somewhere in the 130s?

What do you guys think?

Maybe he can bring out the Diablo? :D

Hmmm...

I wonder if any of the chimps over on the Viper board have seen this yet?

Didn't really expect to still have 3 cars on him at 80, but I did :D

I would guess somewhere in there too as I would be in 5th gear by then. I've ran it out to 7100rpms in 5th before and it just doesn't pull that hard up there. Of course that was with the frank, with the Buschur 20G I might have more topend due to the huge clip Buschur puts on the turbo.

I would LOVE to race a Diablo. I would most likely lose, but it would be interesting to see where I stand. Might get me more motivated to get more mods on my car too ;)

Cool!! I am planning to get a BR 20G next :). I don't let off the gas either...just could be that I am shifting at the wrong points.....the 113.70 pass I made was not a pass with perfect shifting. I really need to work on the shiftpoints.

I forgot....Great Kill!! If you have arematch try and videotape it....it would be cool to watch.

Jerry: that Diablo he has is the AWD VT model. That would be an awesome race especially from a stop. I would pay good money to see that.
From what I've heard it's not the newest, 2001?, model because you couldn't get a roadster and the guy likes convertables. The Viper is the only hardtop that he owns from what I hear. The Diablo is a 1999 model if memory serves correctly. I don't know much about Diablo's but that might narrow down which one it is. Of course if you've seen it Ross then I'm sure it's probably the VT model.

The guy is leaving to go out of town tomorrow and left the hangout early this evening so no re-match with the viper  Oh well, if he brings the Diablo down I'll be sure to get a video camera out there and see what she'll do :D

Everyone take it easy,

20g vs. frank4

laserawd, i think u said u were down sizing from a frank 4 to a 20g, why???? . of course the 20g would come on harder at a lower rpm even with a mass clip, cause its smaller, the frank 4 is a freack'n mass turbo compared to even the 20g clipped. i think texas rebuild has a web site on all stat on all the turbos from dsm's.i was just curious of why, the change? the frank 4 is bigger and would take slightly longer to spool but i cant see a 20g out topping a frank 4 in at the end of the 1/4. sounds like u tried both though???and maybe real world is the diffence? i cant speak from experience i only have a big16 ,but stat's from texas rebuild would prove different bout 20g vs frank 4. i'll make sure though and call Extreme motorsports to see what they think the main difference is between the two. BTW, awesome car you got there!!! how long have been working on that monster?

Yes, I downsized from a Frank 4 to a Buschur 20G. The Frank took about 500rpms more to spool up fully which isn't that much. But the 20G will spool up more gradually even below full spool so it feels stronger on the low end according to my seat-of-the-pants meter.

The main reason I went down was to get a turbo that will be faster on pump gas. The Frank 4 puts out so much heat at 20 psi that getting the car tuned on pump gas was hard and I was running trap speeds that were 1-2mph faster than what I had ran on my 14b with pump gas. Granted when the weather got colder the turbo worked better and I got a best of 112mph on pump, but I've also gotten that already on the 20G in warmer weather.

Another reason was the efficiency points of the turbo. To overcome the heat produced by the Frank 4 I would have had to run close to 28psi. People I talked to said for me to get some ARP head studs and run anywhere from 27-30 psi to get the most out of that turbo, depending on who you talked to. My best on 25psi on the Frank was 115.99mph on race gas, I have 2 friends that have both run 117-121mph on 25psi on a 20G with very similiar setups to what I am running with now.

In conclusion I dropped turbos to be faster on a lower psi since my car is still the only car I have right now while I'm still in college. I'm hoping to hit around an 11.6 with a mph of 118+ when the track opens back up here the first weekend of Febuary.

Hope that answeres your questions, if you have any more let me know.

Thanks!!! I've had the car for ~2.4 years now and have been modding it since the 2nd week that I owned it. I'm fortunate to have a good group of fella's over at http://www.teamnabr.net to help me out with installations and such so that I can save money where ever possible. Being a college kid ain't easy ;) gotta take the ladies out sometimes and spend some money on them :D

One helluva SLEEPER!
Thanks! I was going for the sleeper look and I definitly think I pulled it off :D

However sometimes it makes it even harder to get people to race you. They look over and don't see any turbo or intercooler stickers (I didn't feel like replacing them when I got the car painted  ) and they think it's just a base model. Oh well, most people around town know about the car now so it's not much of a sleeper unless I go out of town. But it's still fun as hell seeing watching how people react when I pull on them :D
