hey im buying a DSM this week with a blown motor. its a 1G anyways. im going to go with a 2G piston 1G rod combo like soo many other people. just wondering what you guys with that combo have paid a machine shop to modify your 1G rods to fit the larger wrist pins on the 2G pistons. i know that the part on the rod has to be enlarged to 22mm from 21 and narrowed as well, i saw the diagram on Vfaq. but i couldnt find anywhere how much that type of machine work would usually run for.

thanks alot
alex.

i got mine done here in missouri for $115. that included opening the wrist pin bore, narrowing the rod end, pressing in arp rod bolts, and shot peening everything so that it looked brand new. great work for a damn good price.

It truely depends on what shop you go to. I had a guy here in Arizona that bead blasted and hot tanked my block, bored the cylinders to .40 over, polished my crank, shot peen my rods and install my new pistons, tear apart my head, bead blast and hot tank it, give it a 3 angle valve job, install new valve guides, seals, and valves for $300. That includes the new parts.

Most places I checked wanted more than that just to bore the block.

I just got lucky going to a busy machine shop and was handed a guys business card. 30 years as a machinist/mechanic for the postal service, retired and does work from his home shop. Did top notch work. Too bad he finally fully retired and sold all his equipment.
