When we did my clutch, we used a pretty big breaker bar, and we also put a socket on one of the timing gears to keep them from skipping a tooth while we broke the hold that the bolts had. Any other questions feel free to ask.

I used a small punch an poked it through one of the holes on the flywheel and turned the FW till it caught. I dont know if this is a healthy method, but it worked for me. Use a breaker bar with a cheeter and that should do it.

PB Blaster does wonders for stuck bolts

196lbs on a craftsman torque wrench, believe it or not buddy. My impact wrench came from the dollar store, I am so sorry:rolleyes:

I dont think this guy is going to go out and spend $150 bucks on an impack that has 500lbs of torque. Maybe he could borrow yours?

the reason that they seemed that tight is because they probably had dry threads, and loctite on them, i know for a fact that you can't tighten then that tight, i have broken them off before for the hell of it, and it didn't take much more than 130 to snap them.

Could have been locktite, had a residue on the threads. I started out at 150lbs on the torque wrench and worked my way up. At 180lbs, i rounded one off with the 6pt I was using:mad: . Put a Grip-Rite socket on it and worked my way up to 196lbs. Was a bitch to get off even after soaking with PB for 6 hrs.

Why would u break them off for the hell of it?

heres a cheap ass way to do it ... i use my hydrolic jack under the fw wedged (lifting the engine a litle so putting some tension on the fw so it wont turn ) under one of the starter gear teeth iyts like lifting the engine but just enough to put a load on the fw then use a really strong socket (impact) with a good breakers whrench and a pipe its so easy once the fw is stuck ..

heating the bolts wont do anything but expand them and make it tighter in the threads, for a torch to be effective you would have to heat the crank to make it expand and become lose around the bolt thats lower temperature. thats obviously not an option.
WD-40 or PB blaster wont help a bit either, you cant get it past the flywheel into the threads in the crank, therye not ever rusty - its factory thread lock and years of heating and cooling that sticks them
i'm waiting on someone to suggest smacking them with a hammer to knock them loose,.. dont forget the thrust bearing takes all the hit and that will smash it
just use a breaker bar or impact and good 6 point sockets
if someone broke flywheel bolts at 130 Ft Lbs they must have been junk or overstretched to begin with

hopefully youve gotten them off by now, but another method of holding the flywheel is sticking a prybar in the teeth of the ring gear and lay the flatside of the prybar against the block on top or bottom of the trans locationg dowels, depending on which side, and and use the leverage gained to hold the flywheel. Heres a REALLY BAD quick drawing but you can get the idea, dont ask about the font i used, i said it was quick

EDIT - in the pic, this would be correct for torquing the bolts, to get them loose, you would want the prybar under this dowell, and you would want a slightly longer prybar... good luck
