Hey Guy's,

I am trying find a 3" turbo back exhaust system for my 1g awd. I am hoping to find one that is not loud. My kids are 2 and 5. I pick them up everyday when coming home from work so the quieter the better.

I had a 1g fwd but 2 weeks ago some a$$ t-boned my car and totaled it. Low life had no license or insurance. My fwd had a cat back 3" which was not too loud but when I add my 3" test pipe it was loud so I took it off.

Does anyone have a 3" turbo back exhaust that they are happy with because it's not to loud? Please post your exhaust setup.....

Thanks Guy's
Ron

Btw, these 1G must have strong frames because the idoit was coming down hill and didn't even see the red light when he t boned my car on the DRIVERS side. I had no pain whats so ever till the 3rd day when my lower back started to feel light pain. The gas & trunk lever was now facing sideways and about 1mm away from hitting the seat. This is why I bought another 1 g for my commute car.

Well, I can tell you that I have a 3" Thermal cat-back and a 2.5" tubular O2 housing, 2.5" downpipe and testpipe, and my car is EXTREMELY LOUD.

However, a friend of mine has a 3" Greddy Cat-back and 2.5" dp and tp, and his isn't nearly as loud as mine.

my apexi dunk was far louder then my apexi n1

i would say just either use a highflow cat or a resonator, not sure about muffler

my dunk sounded loud from up close, but as you got futher away it got much much quieter because it was a very low tone, my n1 sounds quieter inside and from close by but the sound travels well and doesnt dissapate as quickly. with my dunk if you were like 100 feet away it was really low and you had a hard time telling exactly where it was coming from

I have a 3" back w/ a thermal cat back. It is loud enough to wake my youngest when I pull in the garage:) :( .

I like the loudness on the road because it might keep some deer away from me? My new commute is next to many farms and I've already missed one closely:eek: .

If you want a quiet 3'' turboback, get the 3'' RnR turboback. RnRracing.com is the website. I have this exhaust and it is a little bit louder than stock, but if your not driving hard it is extremely quiet. On road trips you can barely hear the exhaust. :D

Much Thanks to everyone that replied. Looks like the RnR exhaust is exactly what I'm looking for. I didn't think you can find a 3" turbo back exhaust that's a bit louder then stock.

Despite all of the other reviews on it, I find that my 3" turboback buschur exhaust to be fairly quite. The only time that it's loud (v8 sounding loud) is when I really get on it or launch. The qualifying factor may be the fact that I have a highflow cat on it instead of a testpipe.

I do enjoy the sound though and it isn't loud at all; I can, for instance, cruise at a certain rpm and have it be no louder than stock.

Most come with silencers if your get those fart cannon style mufflers. Or if you get like a magnaflow muffler and just put a 2 1/4"-1/2" tip on the end it won't be to loud.

Go with something greedy offers. I have the power exterme with a 3" tubular o2 eliminator and run a test pipe and i think my set up is too quiet inside the car. You do get that "droan on the highway at 3200rpms but that's about it. It's deep but not loud by any means. Even at full tilt i can hear the t25 chugin' away.

The absolute best way to get a quiet exhaust with higher flow is to have one hand built. Use a high-flow cat and at least one in-line resonator(a 4" dynomax bullet muffler works GREAT as a resonator, as does a Spiromax muffler although it does get a little restrictive that way). If you put on a decent quality muffler at the end of the system, something that eats high pitched sound, that will quiet it down a good bit. And use a baffled tip. You'd be surprised how much just that little bit helps.

Whoever it was that had the 3" RNR turbo back, did you have the high flow cat on that setup? I think i will get a 2.5" turbo back from them with a high flow cat. And I WONT get the SS muffler, or SS tip, i think that should keep it kinda quiet and stock looking. Does anyone have a picture of the regular RNR muffler installed on a car. Not the SS one. thanks.

I bought my 3" turbo back from RRE and I got the Apexi N1 cat back and it had 2 resonators in it and is very very quiet. Its much much quieter than my FWD's 2.5" turbo back with no resonators. I use hi flow cats on both cars too. I was very suprised on how quiet it is.

Nope I didnt get a high-flow cat pu on. I didnt get the SS muffler or tip either. I dont have any pics I dont think, but it looks like a aluminized oval muffler with a 3'' tip. The muffler barely clears the gas tank and the tip was a little too short so I welded 6'' of 3'' tubing on the end of it. I am in the market for a different muffler though because my muffler is black from road crud and wont clean off.

Me too. I painted my muffler flat black so most people wouldn't notice it. I did this the Exclipse that just got totaled.

I'm sure I am going to do the same thing on the talon. Goes with me wanting a quiet 3" turbo back exhaust system.

I got the whole Apex-I system, got the GT downpipe, with the N! cat back and 2 resonators, its not to loud at all, it was a deep rumbling down to it, but its not to loud, down with the dump tub it was really loud, ended taking that off, not cause of the sound, but but because of crappy craftsmanship. almost fell apart. I love the way it sounds as Im walking away from it, with the TT on. Ive got alot of good things said about the way it sounds.

uh oh, i have a 3" turbo-back w/ test pipe, ported o2 housing and ported manifold about to go on, its gonna be loud as all hell

the only restriction is a dynomax bullet, which goes out to a 4.5" non-baffled tip
I think it's going to be really loud. At least you'll be fast :D

Greedy 3" inch exhausts are not 3" check out the RRE website; smaller then 3". Thats why they are quieter. You have to be carefull with all this resonator talk as some shops forget to tell you that thier reonators make your 3" exhausts, well, not 3" anymore. RNR, if Im thinking right, is a name I havent heard in years and thier 1g exhausts were muc sought after but they stopped making them. I was unaware that these are back in production. I would make sure they are the original design. Your best bet is to have a custom exhaust, with a swapable muffler where the cat goes. If you want quieter then that your out of luck. Your other choice is Thermal as they dont drone at highway speeds. Recently Extreme came out with an exhaust claiming it to be very quiet, but Ive never heard a thing about it.
