(BTW, this is for a '98 TSi AWD)

I just installed a B&M short throw shifter (50% reduction) and a Symborski Stiff Shift kit and I'm absolutely amazed! This made driving and shifting SOOOOOO much better. I can't get over the improvement in shifter feel and response. Now I NEVER grind second.

I recommend this as an absolute must for any 2g owner.

I gotta get it then. I already have the shift kit, but when you go to the track and as you take off you grind second, that is embarrassing as FUCK!! Specially with like 200 peole watching you do it and you pull an 11 second 1/8th not good at all. I ended up walking away with my tail between my legs after that run

Man I love my short throw to death, I just got my B&M in last night and mannnnnnnnnnnnnnn 50 percent is PERFECT! the throw is like 4 inches and i don't smack my radio when I hit 3rd anymore!!! I heard a lot of bad things abotu B&M but I tihnk it was because the make domestic parts, I think there shifter was well worth 155, I'm beyond happy with the performance and quality.

I think the stiffness of the 50% reduced throw + the Symborski kit is perfect. Granted, the shifting is harder to do now, but it feels perfect every time! It has shifting that feels as solid as a nice BMW.

The height is about 1 inch shorter i ithnk, i have before and after pix if anyone wants to see, it is a VERY good shifter my buddy sells them for $155 plus shipping and tax

whatever you do stay away from the neuspeed one.
It is garbage. I installed it hated it, welded it
to a better spot, bent it. It's still junk.
B&M is much better

I'm lovin those pants :D

you will need to remove the console to access the shifter, then remove one E-clip and unskrew the stud in the bottom of the shifter linkage, move it to the 50% setting (use a drop of locktite)then reinstall the linkage and console and your done. It really isn't as complicated as it sounds. My recommendation is 50% first because 30% isn't much of a reduction in throw. I really like how everything works set at 50% Then again thats me... Install time was about 1-2 hours depending on how maticulous you are.

Happy boosting

All you ahve to do is remove the console and access the shifter linkage, remove one E-clip and unskrew the stud in the shifter. Move it to the 50% setting (use a drop of locktite) then reinstall the linkage and the console. It really isn't that hard. As far as install time, took about 1-2 hours, depends on how smoothly things go and how maticulous (might be spelt wrong) you are.

where can you get the symborski kit from?

do you guys think that the Symborski Stiff Shift kit would be better off than the Energy Suspension Bushings for the shifter?
Since I'm assuming (I hate that word) that the ES bushings are non-metallic, I'd have to throw my favor to the Symborski bushings.

This is primarily due to the nature of the problem that the Symborski bushings fix. The Symborski steel bushings allow ZERO movement of the shifter plate (this is a good thing) while anything that could be even slightly compressed (say, polyurethane) would likely just reduce rather than eliminate the plate movement.

My $0.02

I've got some questions arrising, for starters where might I be able to stick a bushing other then the cable supports. And second, if those are the bushing we are referring to because they are the only thing you can concider a bushing in 2G shifters, what would the difference be.... its a round hole which absorbs shock. If it happens to be the mount bushings it's not going to make ur shift any faster, ur shift is only going to be as fast as you can shift, the solid mounts are only going make the shifter feel more solid but you are going to feel more vibrations in your shifter. That's the reason they put rubber ones there in the first place. If I were you all I'd spend money on a shifter first and if you feeling like setting 40 bux on fire go lay it out in the road and and light it with a match. But then again if you all like those bushings go for it, but I myself am not driving a tank. There isn't going to be any noticible difference between metal and urethane. Fill me in here guys, Thanx

ok just got done with the install, yea i like it. i just went for the 35 percent reduction. it works well and lowers the shift know about 3/4 of an inch,i would like more, but its still worth the 155 i paid for it from road race. it somewhat alters the postion of the shift knob,so its better engineered than the stock unit. the Symborski kit does make things better, more precise gear selection, but in my eyes its more like a 15 dollar improvement than a 35 dollar one,but i would get it anyway.

I've got the Energy Suspension Bushings with the B&M...

I got the ES polyurethane bushings and the B&M from Road///Race yesterday and threw them on the GSX last night along with some RRE upper/lower stress bars.

There is also ZERO movement of the shifter plate with the Energy Suspension Bushings. Even though they are polyurethane, they are relatively hard (like skateboard wheels). And the best part is they're only $11.

The combination of the ES bushings and the B&M makes rowing through the gears feel like I've got a shifter gate - very precise.

Other than having a lighter wallet, I don't think you can really tell any difference between the Energy Suspension or the Symborski kit... unless you have a calibrated wrist.

When you're installing the B&M, leave the LocTite off of the Shift Pin, set it at 50% (lowest hole) and go for a spin (before putting all the trim pieces back togther). Then try it at 35% and repeat. When you decide which one you like then apply the LocTite, re-install and put the trim pieces back on.

Personally, I set it at 50% and didn't even bother to try the 35% reduction.

The bushings everyone is talking about aren't the one's on the end of the cables. The are the 1" diameter black rubber bushings on each corner of the Shifter Plate - where it attaches to the Floor.
