I just picked up a 1997 GS Eclipse and i love it, i cant wait to start modifying it, heres what i got listed so far. I only got like $1000 dollars to spend for now. Tell me what u think of this list and the prices

Symborski Shifter Kit $35
B and M Short Shifter Kit $160
KN Air Filter $40
Injen Intake System $164

Now all i need is an exhaust, which would you recommend, i want one that will give me a nice gain in horsepower but is not to loud or obnoxious, what would u recommend. I have found lots of systems at

http://www.ahpproducts.com./ahpproducts.com/id2.html

Which would you recommend?

You should SEARCH before asking this, but I'm really bored at work and will reply.

Your post says GS but your profile says GST. If you have a GS, just get a stock GST exhaust. Its a great upgrade and looks nice. As for the GST, skip the injen intake. It will not fit well when you upgrade your turbo. Its also very pricey for what you get. You can get the SAME thing, better fit, and more reliable, in the color you want from http://www.dejontools.com. Most of them will also be nice to other turbos.

However, the most important thing you could ever have was left off your list: A BOOST GAUGE. Get this, and install it before you touch ANY thing on your car. After you install that, pick up a k&n fipk for our car, it will run you about 65$ I believe. I would skip the hard intake pipe for now and get something that will cost less, and give you more yield.

The bigger the exhaust the better. Get a 3" mandrel bent. Often times you can get a good muffler shop with a mandrel press to custom make one for you for cheaper than you can order. I personally have an HKS hyper exhaust and HATE it. Its rusting, and most importantly, necks down to the stock cat. I don't like that, planning to upgrade stock cat. From what I gather, AHP makes some nice healthy exhausts. Another one to check out is apex N1 and thermal R&D cat-backs. Once you get this on, you notice your turbo (remember the boost gauge) spool up considerably faster.

Now, this is where I think that 1000$ should go. Skip the shifter kits and Injen system. Buy yourself a hard uicp and new BOV. Our stocker leaks at 13.2 PSI. Pick up a BOV that has a return into the intake (don't vent to the atmosphere). http://www.dejontool.com is my choice here. 99$ for a hard intake pipe, painted the color you select and flanged for the BOV you choose. I am getting this sometime this month, with a TurboXS H34 turbo bypass valve. Spend 50$ and get a manual boost controller, or spend 300$ and get an electronic. FWD guys like the electronic because it can have gear sensitive boost levels to aid with traction. Click the link in the upper left "Boost Control" for MBC.

So you got:
100$ - UICP
130$ - BOV or 15$ 1G from a junkyard
65$ - Air Filter
400$ - Cat-back exhaust
50$ - MBC or 300$ Electronic Boost Controller

Crank up your boost levels.

That's about 650$ give or take shipping + taxes. Save the other 350 for when your car breaks. Unfortunately, it will. The setup up there will put you well on your way and you should be able to stomp the majority of the cars out there.

There are upgrade paths all over, they are pretty close to the same and aren't wrong. The run 9 second cars on those paths :)

Congratz on the new car .. I remember my first GST, just wait til she gets mods. Happy boosting.

Ok, I'm on crack. I've been at work way too long. :( I'm sorry. :slam: If you're 2gnt, I suggest getting the stock gst exhaust and sticking with that. Its a lot cheaper than aftermarket for the same gains. Pick up some suspension mods, eibach makes great springs. They run a couple hundred.

Damn I feel like an ass. :(

stick w/ a stock GST exhaust. Best bang for the buck! You can find them for as little as $100 bucks (assuming you can even find one in decent shape)! Back in my NA days we had lotsa guys searching high and low for the stock turbo exhaust since the flow well for the non-turbos.

my friend has a 99' GS with the following mods and runs great times (mid 13s all day)

Ice Man cold air intake ($200) -Awsome deep thoaty sound when he romps on it and since it is made out of plastic it wont aborb heat like the AEM will. HP gain is about 7whp.

GST exaust ($85) -Nice and Stock looking, silent when just crusing around town, but throty as a bitch when he romps on it. (it sounds just like a stock NSX getting on it:D )

zex NOS ($450) -runs a 75shot. I like it b/c its brainless install and it automatically adds pressure to the fuel so you dont have to. (just a little note though. if you get this start at 25shot and work your way up to what you want. Its alot easyier to your engine)

Zex plugs ($35) -If you run a Zex system this is a must!!!!

Stock VR4 fuel pump ($85) -helps keep your fuel lines fully charged with fuel. esp. when running NOS.

Greddy EGT guage ($135) -looks trick and keeps you informed on your engine vitals.

there you go. All this under a $1000 and you will be running reliably and fast.

I push the NOS thing so much though b/c its the best bang for the buck and its 100% safe to run if you prepare your motor for it and watch your EGT guage.

Happy V8 hunting:D
