I am having an issue after my swap with the lower intercooler pipe blowing off. I build boost VERY slowly and when i get to about 5 psi it spikes to 20 then the LICP blows off. If I fixed the pipe from coming off will this solve all my other issues?

i always thought this was stupi but they say hair spray helps keep you stuff together.

Are your pipes beaded at the ends?

Also, what kind of clamps are you using? Anything less than good t-bolt clamps is a problem imo.
Its a stock side mount with the beaded ended j-pipe ( i assume that the bump at the end). The stock lower doesnt fit very well for some reason and I have t-bolt clamps on bolt ends, but the end that fits on the j-pipe doesnt go on very far. I have a hard pipe I am going to replace it with, but could there be any reason for the rest of these problems?

I would assume you don't currently have any leaking turbo seal issues or ever have, but you may want to spray the inside of the tube and the j pipe with break cleaner or something to remove any oil or grease that might be on the surface. The inside of the stock pipes can get pretty sticky if they are completely clean and vice versa if they have the slightest grease on them.

So which part is blowing off, the 2" end on the J pipe or the 2.5" end on the pipe that connects to the J pipe?
You have enough room to put on another tbolt clamp?
I used to run 2 tbolt clamps on each end so I never had to deal with pipes blowing off.

The stock rubber pipes flex. The hard metal ones don't. I seriously doubt a boost leak is causing this problem. You can do a test, it never hurts to make sure anyway, but about all I can say is get some clamps that have a good bite or use more than one.

Also try to make sure there is as little gap as possible between the pipes inside the coupler. This gives the air a place to build up and push on that clamp.

Remember that the engine flexs from torque. It may not be blowing off but pulling off. No clamp will hold the force of a moving engine. I may also be a good thing to check all your motor mounts to see if they're in good condition. Poor condition mounts would contribute to even more motor movement between on and off throttle.

I changed the lower intercooler pipe and it now holds when i get on it. But here are some new problems:

- builds boost way way way slow. If I floor it will slowly build to 5 pounds around 4500 then pull like a crazy train when it rapidly goes from 5-20psi after that.

- No regulation of boost. I have tried multiple MBC's (homemade, Hallman, and now I have an AMS MBC)

My mods are full EVO 3 motor, newer EVO 3 16g, EVO8 560's, full 3 inch, intake, still on stock sidemount with lower hard pipe, and a greddy bov, aeromotive FPR, AMS external oil cooler. (i have a 255 waiting to go in)

I cant seem to run any less boost or build boost very well. any ideas?

ok all the turbo bolts were tight...couldnt move them...cranked on the exhaust mani bolts , tightened the BOV clamp and upper intercooler pipe clamps. Havent driven it yet, but I will report back.

Please keep the ideas flowing.

Any way it could be a bad TPS sensor? I threw a code for that when my crank sensor took a dump but when I had the codes cleared it hasnt come back.

Make sure that the wastegate swing valve is closing completely. I had a similar problem on my old 13g due to the swing valve not closing all the way.

Can you test that without taking the turbo off? I think it may not be opening either just because of the non regulation of boost?

Test drive results? Isn't a spike to 20 from 5 kindof extreme?
After the tightening, its marginally better, but still builds boost to 5psi real slow (im talking like doesnt get out of its own way slow) then BAM 20psi.
