Q: What is the best speakers (combo:Frt & Bck) to use to obtain the MOST bass without going with "HEAVY" subs 10" 12" 15" etc.

ive got a friend that have infinity kappa components... they sound great but they are alittle on the pricey side. but i dont know if u will get the "boom boom" of some big subwoofers. :)

i think the spyders have 6x9's in the rear. if so, get a good set of those and an amp with about 100W RMS to each 6x9. that will give some good bass. 6x9's have a decent cone area, so they'll move some air.

Idea behind the madness!

The reason behind this question is simply this:

I am trying to keep the car as light weight as possible.

I can't justify pulling my back seats, spare tire/jack and some rear paneling just to throw in a 50lbs sub and amp.

Cost is not "as much" of an issue as total WEIGHT.

You could wear an earphone - it doesn't get much more lightweight than that. If you're not that hardcore, then get an internally amplified headunit (50x4 should be fine), and replace the speakers w/ aftermarket of choice.

You're not going to get much bass unless you go with a couple of 8s or at least one 10 and an externally mounted amp. Can't have the best of both worlds in this case.

You can do it!

Cost not issue, but weight is? You can replace with rear 6x9's with a pair of 8's and can also to the door speakers(with a lot of effort) I dont care too much about weight, but of trunk space, so I'm going to get a JBL 300BP.1 to put out 300rms and like 400max to 4 8inch subs, then tweets in the dash. No lost space, but plenty of oomph. Pain in the ass? Yes. But I do my own fiberglassing :)

Good luck man.

Another thing I've heard good reviews on are those bass-shaker style things. Even alpine is coming out with them. Attach them to the metal frame in the seat and it produces no noise, just vibration :)

Michael: Pretty funny man.

roadpie4u: I agree that 6x9's with a nice efficiency rating of 100+dB will help.

I was considering running the 6x9's with all High's and most mid's pulled out to keep distortion to a minimum and obtain high quality ($$) 6.5's for the doors to hit the Mid's and High's strongly pulling some bass out of them.

Other ideas?

I'd say look for 6.5" mid bass drivers like rippin has. Those will give you that hard bass kick, so if you listen to things like rock with a Quick solid kick drum it will be fine. You won't get those extended notes to be as bassy but I think you would be happy with just 6.5's and a good amp.

1loudtalon: Understood.. I agree, nothing beats a couple of good ol' (30+lbs) Subs in a Ported/Tuned Box (30+lbs) and 1000w amp (10+lbs) :( *100 lbs later*

I am merely asking for members advise to what options are available to give good (great) internal bass response and not external so that the chicks on the side of the road get wet due to my 20hz 1ohm inaudible vibration poring from my ride.

pioneer?

the pioneer tsa-6995 they're the 4 ways, if you can fit them in there those things put out some good bass, they handle 300w peak, so like 100-125 rms or so, trust me though you'll have to amplify them, but they scream at you

If cost is not an issue, its weight: get a fiberglass enclosure custom made for a subwoofer or 6x9's.

Weight is alot less than a sub box :(

To get low end, of course the bigger the speaker the better (to physically move air)
You also need a good enclosure. You can have the best speaker, but if its not in a correct amount of airspace it will have no/crappy low end.

If you have zero space, maybe they can get good 6x9 and seal the inside well at a shop. Or maybe, cut the 6x9 to fit a 8 inch sub on each side. I know at least MB Quart made 8 inch speakers with a tweeter also on top.

Goto a GOOD car stereo place and check their options. If you can, compare with another store.

Best 6x9's and 6.5's

sab4you: I was thinking about that very same thing. (8's to replace the 6x9's in the back) but I believe they most likely would not sound very good and making them fit is a whole other matter. As of now I think I am going to stick with 6x9 in the back.

Anyone have an idea which are the best 6x9's for Bass and 6.5 for Mid's and High's for the doors for this application?

I haven't heard anyone mention a bass tube yet.

I generally don't like them because they're a little ghetto. That's not to say they don't work however.

You can get ones that have a built in amp. Just depends on if that's too much space or what. Probably about the same space as one ten in a box with the amp mounted on the back, just different dimension. They don't weight much either.

Any other options? I own a spyder and we have no room for a sub. There is some room under the top but it is blocked off by supports so there is no real way to get a sub inside. I want some more bass than stock! :-/

Plenty of room! Take that flimsy wall thing out, mount your amps under those crossed support bars, and then make a custom box.. you could do 2 12's facing up, or even 2 10s. Also if you dont mind sacrificing you're backseat there is some major space you could use there.

Heat: Bass tubes are nice but I think -Boost_krazy-'s idea is a bit nicer. The Basslink looks interesting but was when I check on their site, I was unable to find the total weight of the unit.

Since this thread relates to "weight" in regards to obtain as much booooom as possible with as little weight or as with the Spyder guys as little "space" as possible, I would have to say the Basslink is the best solution for the two problems thus far. (.75 cu) in size.

Does anyone have weight of this product and/or other options not yet discussed?

Bass without subs IS POSSIBLE! We had an Acura (dont remember what it was.. i think it was 97 3.2 TL) That thing was bumbin our whole detail shop. I was like "What's he got in the trunk?" I looked... NOTHING! Deck was stock. Speakers were stock. I dont know how it got such good performace from some component speakers. Maybe it had a built in amp somewhere. Cause no amp under seats, or in the trunk!

StevenSch: Would have been nice to find out what he had in there (HIDDEN) maybe?

Redsand187: Even at 20-25 pounds, that is not bad. I like the idea of being able to take the Amp / Box and Speaker out of the car when going to the track with little effort!

This might be a key to the bass/weight issue. Speed of total removal.
