broken cv shaft cause stall and extreme shake??

On my way to work today, i pulled out easy and heard something just bang. Then the whole car started shaking and the engine died. I left the car and went to work, where i am now. haven't look at it yet. but wanted to have some ideas when i go home tonight. Could a bad half shaft/cv shaft be causing this? I am hoping for that and not the bottom end. I tried to restart and the vibration is throughout the whole car and stalls out.

This really sucks cuz i just re-did the top end. Any suggestions where to look would be great.

for being a HELP section, i thought i would have gotten at least one suggestion. what the hell are you guys here for if you don't help?

Possible balance belt broken? And no, it doesn't sound like anything to do with a broken CV joint or axle.

dropped valve, i think

I had no idea when i posted, but when i got home i pulled #1 plug and found metal shavings.

and not much, if any compression.
I will probably get the t-belt and hopefully the head off tonight to diagnose.
