today driving home from a new years party (yea what a great day for this to happen) i was at about 45 just cuising and my car shut off. I pulled over, tried to start it and nothign was getting power, i went checked battery connections, fuses ect and my ignition fuse was blown. After seeing that, i put a new fuse in and the car would turn over but not start. When turning over, the car will turn over a few times than it makes a noise and stops turing over, the noise seems to be coming from the starter area. AFter trying to start my car a few times i blew another fuse. We tried push starting it to no avail. I'm assumeing my starter is causing the car not to start, although it does turn over the motor but than seems to get "stuck", but i find it weird that my car would die while driving (starter shouldn't cause that) and now it also won't start.

if it matters any, i did install a walbro fuel pump today and my car was runnign fine earlier, anything i should look at besides the fuel pump? i'm looking for stuff to look for when i tow my car home tomrrow. any ways to check for anything besides getting a new fuse and turning the key in the on posistion and seeing if the pump is getting power? I'm lost because these 2 seemingly different problems happened at the same time.

A short on the new fuel pump wire would make your car turn off while driving and make it blow fuses over and over again.

This same exact thing happened to me a couple years ago. The power wire on the pump was to long and when I bolted the fuel cell panel down the wire got crimped and shorted out. Check that pump before you blow your car up.

to tell you the truth i won't be too sad if it does blow up ;), but i'm gonna check it today, i'm hoping it's a fuel pump problem.

also does anybody know why i would have a starter problem too. last night the car would turn over than get "stuck", seems like the starter is bad too, why would both go?

update: I picked up my car today, and went with a few fuses. First thing i attacked was the fuel pump. I put the key in the on posistion and there was no noise (i was told it should make the normal whining with the key on). To make sure i wasn't getting fuel i took off the fitting on the harline right by the fuel pump and tried starting the car, no fuel. I pulled out the pump and I didn't see any wires that seemed to be shorted or any bare metal exposed, i jiggled wires around and tried again, the car was not getting fuel.

Could it be my fuel relay? would a faulty fuel relay cause the car to shut off while driving? (i don't totally understand how relays actuially work).
