car too fast?? Rally Edition DSM??

So im a bit confused, all of the local dsmers in my area are in a mind set to figure out why my car is as fast as it is.

12.98 @ 105.5mph
-act 2100
-k&n
-free mods
-homemade boost controller set to 20psi
-walbro 255 HP(high pressure)
-full buschur exhaust, downpipe,
testpip, catback all 2.5" pressbent
-stock turbo
-NO porting

my second gear syncro has been horrible, so i would actually have to pause for about a .5 sec before i could shift to 3rd, so i could have been faster.
on the same note: the syncro is no longer a problem since i dont have a 2nd gear anymore.

now they told me that they were going to take my keys, then steal my car and disassemble it to find out if it is ported or something.

they also confronted me and checked the weight on the car and told me that they though it might have been one the special "rally edition" dsm's that werent really labeled rally edition. they said the rally edition is supposed to be a lot lighter or something.

a few of the guys are really knowledgeable, (i.e. have done engine swaps, rebuilds, good friends with buschurs, and so on and so on).

has anyone heard of this special "rally edition".

I'm guessing you are POSITIVE that the turbo is stock? (didn't you buy the car already modded?)

20psi?
No Cat?
Plenty of fuel?

My friend with a 92 awd hits mid 13's with a three inch turbo back exhaust, a Cat, a K&N, free mods, and a quarter tank of gas.

12.98 with those mods isn't a Rally car, its a perfect example of a Rippin DSM.

i was talking with the one guy, and i told him i was thinking of getting a jap-spec, he said he'll buy my engine off of me.....he had a grin on his face. so i think i might just rebuild this one.

Well for starters it helps that you have a laser which is the lightest of the dsms due to lack of exterior trim.

I've never heard of a "rally edition" but i do know that there were around 100 90's that came as some sort of "race edition" that were basically striped down from the factory. No sound-deadning, no stereo system, manual everything, and not even a bump in the hood. I thought these models only came in fwd form and im not sure if they did them after 90.

Besides all that, your times aren't really too crazy. I would expect something closer to mid 13's, but i certainly believe the times you've aceived are possible.

Good job!

tell those guys to stop crying and start practicing hehehe.. plain and simple your a better driver then they are.. i've seen a 2g FWD do 13.3et with the same mods as yourself on street tires... how? cuz he goes to the track 4times a week to practice his r/t.

me in driving your car..you can expect to see 15s all night long...heheheeee (i can't drive 4 sh!t)..hheee

i thought the bump was a MUST on a DSM.. to clear the cam sprockets??? how can they not have a bump on a turbo. or (i've never checked this) is the bump not necessary. just a "fashion statement" lol

If that run of 13.3 was with a stock T-25, then that was one hell of a run!!! Peace out!!

Thats what I thought too.

If you were running 20psi on that stock turbo I hope to god you used high octane race gas.

R/T has nothing to due with your ET. On a seperate note I saw a laser last week with no power bulge. It was in the rearview so I couldn't check if it was turbo or not.I also thought the bump had to be there to clear the cams.

hey ouSeven what color is your car man? is it like a grayish metallic color? if so thats why its so fast;) no really, i have the same exact car as you do, color wise anyway, (not mod wise) and i have beat many cars, that should have either kept up closer or beat me by a lot. its wierd, but it also might have something to do with your driving skills, as i believe i can drive better than most drivers out here (in racing anyway), and i have won many races because the other person can't drive worth a damn.

Well the bumpless hoods were used on the 1.8L cars for sure, which don't need as much clearence, but i'm almost positive you can fit the bumpless hood without touching the cam cover. Granted it will be a very tight fit. I've never actually seen these race edition cars, this is only something i've heard before from a few different people.

the bumps are not needed on a 1.8L. If I remember correctally they are not DOHC, so they have no upper cam sprockets to clear, making them not necessary.

shaun
so, the 1.8L SOHC "rally edition" was made to be faster then our 2.0 DOHC????? i'm no genius but all the odds are against the "rally edition" car....LOL

OT, but the bump is required on 1g T's - to clear said cam sprockets. on 2g's they were "continuing the look" or some such nonsense - it actually clears by a few inches I'm told.

regarding the car's quickness, sounds like you're just a good driver, and have a good solid car. There's a fellow up here that ran a 12.9 recently at 5000 feet with a stock turbo & intercooler!

That said, it's possible you've got a 16g and dont' know it. A local club member just bought a car that the owner said was stock, lo and behold is a 16g nestled under the hood! You never know what's been upgraded over the years. I found a 4-bolt underneath my '90 the other day :-D

Yeah, Jake is right. On 1g T's the bump has to be there to clear. I went outside earlier and checked it out. Put my hood up, knelt down, and looked across the fenders. The cam cover sticks up and inch or so.
