Yanno, something like the HKS Ti???

I believe the HKS Carbon Ti, isn't actually a total titanium catback exhaust, if I'm not mistaken. I think that the muffler is titanium wrapped in a carbon fiber sheet...but the piping is stainless steel. If it were TRUE full titanium exhaust, it would cost quite a bit more.

I was wonderin about this too, i'd like a full TI exhaust in the future, but i don't think any are availabe for the DSM's yet

The HK$ exhaust is not full titanium. The piping is stainless steel. Veilside makes the only exhaust thats currently 100% titanium from the cat to the tip. The Veilside exhaust is going to be priced at $1399.00. Compare that to the HK$ price of $1,440.00 for the stainless steel/titanium exhaust.
Why would you want full titanium exhaust? The entire exhaust weights 10 pounds. The HK$ unit weights in at 30lbs. By the way, those prices are MSRP. I know you can get both systems for cheaper.

The HK$ TI is 30 lbs, which I'm guessing is quite a bit lighter than the stock Supra exhaust system. The Veilside TI is 20 lbs lighter than the HK$ unit. So in total you might be saving 30 to 40 lbs. But not only are you saving weight and freeing up horsepower (not gaining, less weight only frees up power), the exhaust itself adds horsepower because of the larger piping. Can you get a 3 and half inch aluminzed mandrel bent pipe that will perform as good as a titanium peice? Yeah probably, but will it last forever? No. Is a 1,400 dollar exhaust for everyone? Again, no. Stainless steel exhausts are much cheaper and offer similiar performance, but more weight.

Doesnt your typical catback piping come in stainless steel?

Besides the weight, the TI sounds a lot louder/better. Probably your average joe wouldnt need that good of an exhaust, but when every bit of performance matters then it's worth the few hundred bucks more.

In weight reduction a few lbs here n there really adds up, just changing to a smaller battery saves a few lbs...not much, but if you start taking 5lb-10lb things out you could end up shaving 100-200lbs off your car, and the 40 or so lbs you save from the exhaust is quite a large amount.

Ex. carbon fiber hood + TI exhaust + carbon fiber racing seats + light weight wheels = almost 200lbs of weight savings right there ;)

I'd like to know how a titanium exhaust is better than a similar non-titanium exhaust? It is lighter, but that's one hell of a premium to pay. I'd just forget about a muffler :D, that 's the heaviest part and is still a restriction. Have the piping dump to the side for even more weight savings ;). I've heard it on a DSM and it doesn't sound bad, just a little loud. And you'd have a bit of $$ left to raise your hp/weight ratio. For ultimate performance a Ti catback is a waste of money. If you said you wanted it to get oohs and ahhs then I can see an argument for that, but I can't imagine that sheer performance is why anybody would buy one.

It may not be heavy on your DSM. The stock exhuast on a Supra however is probably heavier than the exhaust you put on your car. I'm guessing at the weight of the stock Supra system, because I don't personally know how much it weights. However, I do know that the HK$ Ti exhaust weighs 30lbs, and the Veilside exhaust weighs 10lbs. Those are the facts. Yes, your specific exhaust system may not weigh 50lbs. I'm not saying that the Veilside exhaust is worth $1400, either. The point of my orginial post was to point out the fact that a full titanium exhaust was not "quite a bit more" as Tranman said before me. The exhausts are actually the same price.
How is a titanium exhaust better? its lighter. Other than that, it offers no performance advantage over a stainless steel exhaust. Is it worth the premium? How much money do you want to spend to save 20 - 40lbs? Not worth it to me, but then again I don't have enough cash to afford a supra. :)
