it happen to us with my friend drop the bolt inside the tranny on that same hole, tried everything and we are in the middle of swapping auto to stick on his car,we ended up taking the tranny off the car and if you are lucky you wont have to open the tranny. too bad you have to take the tranny off the car just for that stupid bolt but that `s your best bet right now you dont have any option right now.Good luck you could doooooooooo it.:)

Much sympathy. I have a magnet that's on a wire instead of a telescoping antenna or spring- it's a German thing, Stahlwille, number 12 600. Says rated for 270 grams. The magnet's only 3/16", saved me a hassle when my sunroof puked a screw and rattled all around in my roof. A Porsche or VW shop might be able to help, or see if Snap-On or Matco or any of the tool trucks carry something similar. Or, epoxy a magnet onto a piece of copper wire (10 gauge or so) for the same thing.
Good luck to you, sometimes crap just happens.

i had to remove my trans over thanksgiving weekend when i shattered an axle inside of it. Fun fun fun stuff. I also dropped a bolt down inside the compressor side of my turbo... whoops. had to pull the turbo off/apart to get that lil bastard out. Now I cover all holes with duct tape when i do something risky (get your mind out of the gutter)

what luck!

You guys won't even believe my luck. I was going to make one last ditch effot to get the bolt out with a flexible magnet so I was removing the rear tranny mount and the damn speed sensor bolt fell on my face. I couldn't believe it. We must have searched for it for a hour before we came to the conclusion that it went in the tranny. I guess it just got wedged in between that bracket and the tranny somewhere. Hooray for stupidity and dumb luck. Next time I know to be extra careful with that bolt now. Thanks everyone for the responses.

cool deal!

That happeend to me the first time i dropped a bolt in my turbo. I thought it was in there when in reality it was resting on the front motor mount.

Had it almost out before my friend was like "is that the bolt?"
