I'm thinking 1g AWD specificly, but the 2gs seem to be pretty similar if not the same.

Ok, Being all wheel drive, when you drop the clutch at 5k, the car is going to roar out of the hole, having a great 60 foot time, etc etc, good boost responce etc.

Problem...In that time, either your clutch slipped, your tires spun, or your transmission gave a little. Seems to me that the transmission would be the weakest link, and from what i hear, rebuilding these transmissions is not an uncommon thing.

What are you thoughts? Can DSMs hold up to punishment? What alternatives do we have? Could even an RRE tranny hold up to lets say...4 runs in one night, and still be a good transmission?

I love awd, but i would always be so afraid when dropping the clutch, that i would drop the tranny too....But then, if you dont do that, you might was well have FWD.

You can slip your clutch which helps a lil bit, or you can get a transmission built by TRE www.teamrip.com that will be bullet proof with hardened gears, double synchros, spooled center diff, etc etc etc. I know some people who break transmissions in stock cars and some people who can run 11s with a basically stock transmission. Its all in luck and how you drive.

Get an all wheel drive, the way it drives is amazing, you will never want anything else.

Sorry, i said RRE and i ment TRE.

Are the TRE transmissios as good as they seem?

I mean, what are some other opinions on doing multiple runs.
My Bros 400 camaro could run all night...and he has, 8 in a night a few years ago. I never hear of stuff like that with DSMs.

whats the good of a sports car that you cant run hard.
and if its just to run hard 'every once in a blue moon' its not a sports car! its just a car that can be suped up.

a neon can add a shot of nos every 'once in a blue moon', but it sure as hell isnt a sports car!

Nobody's saying you can't run the car hard, just learn how to drop a tranny. It's fun. 30 minutes is my best time with some help. :)

I have an 98 awd not many mods at all but ive done like 15 runs in one day easy at the track and ive never had a problem and i dump the clutch. My clutch is even stock ive been to the track about 5 times now and i atleast get 8 runs when im there. Im not running crazy times 14.6 stock no mods was my best time so far. Im modding now since im storing my car for the winter and i plan on doing a clutch along with my hp mods but not the tranny now it shifts awesome. Im not sure but i think the 2nd gen trannys are better than the first gen. Every 1st gen ive seen has had some tranny problems i owned two first gens 91 laser and a 91 talon both with tranny problems. I have a friend who had a 90 eclipse and it goes into third real hard. Atleast you dont have to worry about crankwalk like on the 7 bolts nobody seems to know what causes this wich sucks. If you want the best bang for your buck go dsm if want a semi quick reliable car buy a honda.

If you drive correctly you will have little problems. I have seriously put 45K on my Galant VR4 in less than a year with at LEAST 50-60 passes at the track and many more street launches and I have not degraded my shifting quality at all. Regular driving with a misadjusted clutch or BAD driving at the track like missed gears is what messes up trannys.
